Hoboken Public School District
Special Edition of The Herald #4 - March 12, 2020
By this time, you should have received a message from the City's Office of Emergency Management. If you have not read the following, please do so:
OFFICE OF EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT: HOBOKEN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT TO CLOSE ON MONDAY
Due to the State of Emergency declared by the Hoboken Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the Hoboken Public School District and the Hoboken Charter Schools (Elysian, HoLa, and Hoboken Charter) will close starting Monday, March 16 for a period of two weeks. The decision to close was made by the Hoboken OEM, as authorized in a State of Emergency, in coordination with the leadership of the four school districts. Although there have been no confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Hoboken or among the student population, the decision to close the schools was done out of an abundance of caution.
Each school has made preparations for remote learning programs, and will communicate those plans directly to parents.
The Hoboken Public School District will provide breakfast and lunch service to all students who qualify for free and reduced lunch in any of the four public school districts. Meal service will be available for pick up from 8:30-10:30 a.m. and can be picked up from the 9th Street side door (between Clinton and Grand Streets) of the Hoboken High School cafeteria.
In preparation for receiving this notice which was needed to close the schools, we have developed a comprehensive remote learning plan for all students. This plan includes lessons for all grade levels (PK-12) with provisions for Special Education and English as a Second Language Learners. Related services will also be provided via remote learning plans. Lessons can be accessed on our district website tomorrow afternoon. Hard copy packets will also be available for those who may need them.
Any family that is eligible for free or reduced lunch may pick up "grab and go" breakfast & lunch meals at the 9th Street cafeteria door of Hoboken High School during the days that we are closed. Please note that the days in which the district is closed will be counted toward New Jersey's requirement of 180 school days. Essential operations of the district will continue over the next two weeks. Teachers will be available during the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to respond to parent and/or student questions via email, Class Dojo or Google Classroom.
If you have questions regarding your child's remote learning plan, please contact your child's teacher or school principal. I will provide regular updates as we move forward and continue to assess the situation at hand.
Sincerely,
Superintendent Johnson
