Happy October, LSN Families!
My name is Rebecca Steele and I am the Lead Counselor here at LSN. We are so excited to have our students back in the building and can't wait for a great year.
The fall semester is in full swing and things are busy in the LSN Counseling Department. In September, we presented Post-Secondary Planning information to all seniors and sophomores. We'll be visiting with juniors this month, along with hosting an "All-School Practice Test Day" on October 19 (more info to come).
We didn't have a September newsletter, so I want to be sure and share specific counselor information with each of you. As a reminder, counselors are here to assist students with academic planning, post-secondary preparation, and personal/social concerns. We love meeting with your students, so please encourage them to reach out any time.

Why do we celebrate it?
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated to recognize the many contributions, diverse cultures, and extensive histories of the American Latino community.
It initially began as a weeklong celebration in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson who, at the time said, " The people of Hispanic descent are the heirs of missionaries, captains, soldiers, and farmers who were motivated by a young spirit of adventure, and a desire to settle freely in a free land."

SUICIDE PREVENTION AWARENESS
September is National Suicide Prevention Month. It's a month for us to remember the lives lost to suicide, the people who have struggled with suicidal ideation and a time for us to acknowledge those who have been impacted by suicide. It is also a time to raise awareness about suicide prevention and share messages of hope.
