Weekly Bulletin 1.10
Welcome to week 10
Welcome to the last week of quarter 1. Now is as good a time as any to reflect on practices from quarter 1 and access your progress toward our building goals for the school year. Identify the "high points," of the quarter. They exist! Identify the "low points," of the quarter, for they too exist. If you are an administrator, what systems have you and your team created and maintained? Are the people who are impacted by the systems aware of what the systems are? Teachers, how has your instructional capacity increased? Are you engaging your students in work that is aligned to grade level content standards? How well are you utilizing a guaranteed viable curriculum? How effective is your use of available resources to help close gaps for students who have not met the grade level standards? Students, are you monitoring your own progress toward your academic goals? How well did you take ownership of your learning during the first quarter? Are you coming to class prepared for learning? Do you seek support from the teacher when you are struggling? How often do you advocate for a quality school experience both in and out of the classroom? Are you satisfied with your answers to these questions? If so, wonderful! Set new goals and keep going. If you are not satisfied with your answers, it's not too late to "put the pedal to the medal," or pivot if necessary. It doesn't matter what your role in the school is, from the front office to the custodial office, all stakeholders in the school play a role in moving this school forward.
Reflection, (as opposed to deflection), is an important ingredient for a healthy school culture. An author on school culture discussed the theory of schools being microcosms of society vs. society being microcosms of schools. Schools impacting society vs. society impacting schools has been a long-standing debate. However, if educators view schools as a place where students develop academic and social skills, it is evident that society becomes a microcosm of schools. Therefore, what we do inside of the school becomes that much more important. It is our view of the role of education that is projected and reflected on our students, thus creating the culture of the school. Rather we realize it or not, what we say and do within the walls of our school has an impact on the community that resides around the building, and an impact on our city as our young people will one day be adult contributors to society. Let's use the opportunity to reflect as an opportunity to improve the culture of our school community. The community around us is depending on it!

Procedure reminders
- Seek approval for field trips from the principal, (in writing), before scheduling any field trips. Include the Mrs. Sprinkle & Mr. Chunn in the email so they can add it to the events & field trips calendar should the field trip be approved.
- Admit students into your classroom until 8:15 before requiring a pass, after 8:15, all late arrivals must sign-in at the planning center.
- Refrain from issuing hall passes the first 10 and the last 10 minutes of class.
- Refrain from "replying all" to mass emails, as it pushes important information down the thread, (potentially causing it to be missed).
- Review the assessment calendar & make sure that you issue a diagnostic (pre-test), mid-term & final in all classes. These assessments should always access a priority-standard.
- Only permit students in your class who are on your roster for that period, (unless you are covering a class). This includes advisory.
- Use all 46 instructional minutes for instruction. Students should not be idle at any time during the period. Prepare critical thinking task for those who master the concepts, and interventions for those who do not.
- Apply the knowledge gained from PDI into your everyday practices.
