Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
Spring is here and so is the sunshine! We have had a busy, however a wonderful Term 3 so far with many special events shared with our school community.
New Artwork in Office Foyer
We love our new inclusion in the office foyer. This wonderful artwork was developed by our students during our NAIDOC week event which showcases all the students working together, walking together and developing their knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal Culture. You can see this artwork when you come into the front office.
Staffing News
I would like to warmly welcome Miss Bajek to our school. Miss Bajek is working on 1/2K each Monday and Friday, and in a release role on Tuesday to Thursday. I am sure that Miss Bajek will thoroughly enjoy her time at Liverpool PS.
Book Character Parade
Our theme for 2023 was Read, Grow and Inspire. I really enjoyed seeing the wonderful costumes on display at our Character Parade. It was especially wonderful to see our teachers and our students getting in on the action. I would like to acknowledge the Events team for their efforts on the day. I would also like to thank the many parents and carers who came along to make the event so special. Our K-2 dance group were wonderful showcasing their dancing skills for the first time this year. They were amazing and looked spectacular.
Covering Classes
This term, the school has had difficulty covering classes when a number of staff members are either absent or participating in extra-curricular activities or professional learning. We value our extra-curricular activities and professional learning, as they play such an important role in developing consistency in our resources, programs and pedagogy across the school. Unfortunately, there have been many occasions where we have needed to split classes or collapse support programs to ensure that classes are covered. This is a common problem in all schools at the moment and we are collectively sharing feedback with the Department of Education in order to find a solution to the issue. I hope that class splits and significant changes to routines are not regular moving forward, however, I do thank you in advance for your understanding when they do occur. The educational outcomes for all our students is always our main priority.
After School Pick-Up
School finishes at 3pm each day the school is open for operation. As mentioned in the previous newsletter, we have been looking into a new system of gate closures to ensure our school is secured for the safety of all onsite after school hours. Our red and blue gates around the school will be locked by 3:10pm each day and our green gate will be locked by 3:30pm.
Each day our executive staff on after-school duty will be taking all students not collected by 3:10pm into the office area for collection. Please ensure to collect your child by no later than 3:15pm. We will be calling parents and carers immediately. If you are running late, please contact the school office, so we can inform your child's teacher.
Parents and carers are reminded that we do have before and after school care on premises and may need to be considered for the regular late pick ups. Thank you to all the parents and carers who collect their child/ren on time every day!
Planning for 2024
We are currently commencing the planning for 2024. If your child will not be returning to Liverpool Public School next year, please let the school office know. If you are planning on travelling over the summer break and may miss the beginning of the new school year, please make sure you give the office a copy of your travel arrangements, so that we can include your child into our student numbers.
Student Leadership for 2024
Early next term I will be working with Ms Dunlop to commence the process for 2024 Student Leadership positions. Year 5 students will be informed of the Student Leadership Policy and what the EOI Leadership Application form involves. Being elected as part of the School Student Leadership team comes with great responsibility and I know that we grow leaders at Liverpool Public School.
Liverpool Legend Awards
Congratulations ot our Liverpool Legend award recipients for:
- Kindergarten to Year 2 in weeks 4, 5, 6 and 7
- Years 3-6 in weeks 3, 4, 5 and 6.
K-2: Weeks 4 and 5
Years 3-6: Weeks 3 and 4
Years 3-6: Weeks 5 and 6
Athletics Carnival
We love our sport and celebrating our wonderful achievements at Liverpool PS. Congratulations to all the students who received a ribbon at the athletics carnival this year. An extra special mention to the following 5 students, Aydin, Whetu, Rayhan, Natali and Elsa who have broken a sporting record at the recent carnival. These students each received a $30 Rebel voucher and have had their names added to our school hall of fame! Great work!
School Administrative and Support Staff Recognition Week
This week is School Administrative and Support Staff Recognition Week, a time to acknowledge and thank the often unsung heroes in our public schools. Our SAS staff play an important role in the school community. They are often the first people you see when you enter a school and are essential to maintaining positive relationships with students, parents and the community.
SAS staff work in school offices, in classrooms and libraries and maintaining and caring for school grounds and buildings. They are often the ones to tend to students when they unwell and they ensure the efficient management of school financial and administration functions.
Communication with our parents and carers
As a school community, we value the relationship we have with our parents and carers. Together we will be better able to support the learning journey of our students. We welcome opportunities to partner with you and to discuss your child’s learning throughout the year and encourage you to contact your child’s teacher/s if you wish to discuss their progress and learning goals.
There are many ways that Liverpool Public School communicates and partners with our school community, including:
Meet the Teacher (Term 1)
Getting to know my child learning conferences (Term 1)
parent-teacher learning conferences for Semester 1 reports (Term 2)
updates via email, Audiri or Facebook
notes
SMS' sent to parent mobiles
telephone calls
general meetings
review meetings
To answer questions or to discuss your child’s learning, please contact the school:
phone: 9602 7882
The School Community Charter
The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive.
We do ask that parents and carers treat our staff with respect at all times. The School Community Charter can be found here and is below.
School Bytes
We have a new system we are using at Liverpool PS called School Bytes. This new system will provide school communications regarding payments and to give permission for your child/children to participate in events.
The School Bytes parent portal enables you to view all your children in one portal and process payments for multiple siblings in one transaction. Please ensure you have set up your School Bytes parent portal account to assist this process.
To set up your parent portal follow the steps in the guide Parent Portal: Set up your parent portal account.
We will be in touch with more information about how we will support our community to transition to this new system. Contact the school should you have any questions.
Attendance Matters
Our school continues to place a high priority on regular student attendance. Initiatives are in place to recognise and celebrate strong attendance. Students are expected to be at school on all days that the school is operational and they are well enough to attend. Reasons for absences are also required for school records. Additional information for parents and carers on the Department’s ‘Attendance Matters’ initiative can be found here:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/parents-and-carers/initiatives/every-day-matters
Lost Property
All lost property is placed in containers outside the staffroom and in the Kindergarten area. It is the responsibility of parents and carers to label the property of their children and to remind children of their responsibilities in taking care of their property. Teachers regularly remind and support children to take responsibility in caring for their belongings, but they are not responsible for managing lost property. Please take the time to check these belongings in case you are missing any items.
Father's Day Stall, Afternoon Tea and Father's Day
Thank you to our parent volunteers for supporting our stall by giving up their time to assist on the day selling items to the students. It was also lovely to see so many fathers and father figures attend our Father's Day Afternoon Tea yesterday. We value your efforts and are grateful for your attendance.
I would also like to wish all our fathers, grandfathers and father figures a wonderful Father's Day this Sunday. I hope you enjoy this precious time with family and your gifts whether they are hand made or purchased.
As always if you have any questions please contact the school office on 9602 7882.

Principal
Happy Father's Day
From the Deputy Principal (Early Stage 1 & Stage 1) - Mrs Pritchard
Welcome to the September Newsletter. Term 3 so far has been a busy term with whole school events, excursions, the Athletics Carnival and our Father’s Day Afternoon Tea. It has been amazing to see so many people from our school community join us for these events and celebrate the amazing things happening at Liverpool Public School every day.
Below are some photos taken from our Book Week Character Parade held in Week 6. It was an amazing day where so many students and staff dress up as their favourite character. Thank you to all the parents and carers that came and joined us for this event. It was lovely to see so many people attend.
Kindergarten will be travelling on an excursion to Early Start Discovery Space Centre on Thursday 14 September. A reminder that students must be in full school uniform and bring their recess, lunch and water for the day. I look forward to hearing all the great stories and seeing the photos from the day.
Happy Father’s Day to all the special male figures within our school community. I hope you all have a very special day on Sunday.

PSSA has now concluded for the year. Congratulations to all our teams and their coaches for their efforts this year. Our students have learnt lots of new skills and had fun each week whilst representing our school.
As we come to the end of the term, we still have a lot of exciting events upcoming. Year 3 will be attending the Zoo on 12 September and Stage 3 have their Field of Mars Excursion on 21 September. Please remembers students need to be in full school uniform to attend these events.
This week our Year 6 students had a visit from the PEO where they learnt all about Parliament. Some of our Year 6 girls also attended Liverpool Girls High School to view and Art Show. This was an exciting opportunity for them to see where they are going to be attending High School next year.
Thank you to all our parents who attended our Father’s Day Afternoon Tea. We hope you all had a lovely time. We also hope you enjoy any gifts your children may have purchased at our Father’s Day Stall which was held on Wednesday of this week.
Happy first day of spring. With the warmer weather coming, it is important that all jumpers and jackets are labelled with student’ names and classes. We are seeing a lot of unlabelled lost property. If your child has lost an item, please remember to check our lost property boxes after school.
Next week, our Year 6 students will be sitting Check-in Assessments in reading, numeracy and writing. These are state-wide assessments and will be administered as online assessments. Students who are absent on the day will be able to sit the assessment on the first day they return to school if it is within the assessment window. Please see your child’s teacher if you have any further questions about Year 6 Check-in Assessments.
I would like to take this time to wish you all a safe and happy Spring Holiday. Students start their 2-week holiday period on Saturday 23 September and return to school on Monday 9 October.

School Uniform Expectations
The school uniform is an important part of our school. We have an expectation that our students will wear their school uniform proudly when they are attending school, on excursions or representing the school in PSSA Sport. We ask that you support the school by ensuring your children are wearing their uniform. We have a school uniform and sports uniform. Sport shorts are not interchangeable with school shorts. They are different colours. Black school shoes are to be worn with their school uniform and black or white sneakers can be worn for sport days. A component of our school uniform is our school hat and can be purchased from MUE.
In Term 4 students are reminded to wear their spring/summer uniform. Please ensure your child’s name is permanently and clearly labelled on belongings such as school hats, jackets, lunch boxes, drink bottles and school bags. From the Office Staff
Attendance Matters - Every Day Matters
We want to do all we can to ensure your child achieves their potential and enjoys being in school. One way we can help make this happen is to be sure your child attends school each day unless they are sick, have Covid-19 symptoms, or are absent for a justified reason.
Being at school every day boosts student learning and confidence and helps them build and maintain friendships. Protecting the wellbeing of our students through the reporting and monitoring of student absences is the responsibility of both parents/carers and schools. Notifying the school either before or on the day that your child is away helps us keep accurate student attendance records to support you and your child.
We know that school is the best place to learn and regular attendance means students can stay on top of their schoolwork and get the most out of their learning. If you are having trouble getting your child to school every day or on time, please talk to our school staff so we can work together, because every day counts.
Missing a day here or there may not seem like much, but absences add up and can impact your child’s learning. When your child misses one day a week over a year, that’s 40 days of school, 8 weeks of lessons and 2.5 years over their school life lost.
Our school strives for the expected attendance rate which is above 95% of students at school each day over the year.
From the Classroom - ES1 RFF and Mrs Kubacki
Throughout the Kindergarten science lessons this term, we have been learning about materials and their properties. The students have been comparing natural and man-made materials and are investigating what types of materials are appropriate to use when making or building objects. During science week, the students got to explore other science concepts with a plethora of hands-on activities in the science room set up by Mrs McMullen and the science committee. They all had a blast mixing different liquids, playing with ramps, learning about magnets, and building figures out of cogs.
From the Classroom - ES1 RFF and Mrs Razoke
In geography this term, students investigated the places they live in and belong to. They understood that places vary, and people have different views about the use of places. They observed and described the features of their own place and investigated the meaning of belonging to a place. Also, they learned the concept of important and special places. Students thought about what makes a place special and how and why special places need to be taken care of.
Students identified how and why the words “Country/Place” are used by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples for the places to which they belong. Students are encouraged to invite members of the traditional owner groups to talk about “Country/Place’ and places of cultural and historical significance to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the local area.
Furthermore, students focused on maps. Students were introduced to maps and how we use them to find places. They explored and created maps of familiar and new places. The lessons included an introduction to the type of language used when using maps and an introduction to the world map and globe.
From the Classroom - 2T and Ms Ellis
From the Classroom - 4G and Mrs Georgiou
In mathematics, 4G have been focusing on number talks in Term 3. They have been experimenting with applying a range of mental strategies to solve addition and subtraction problems and problems involving fractions and decimals. Students have engaged in rich discussions about mathematics and have developed their mental maths skills by listening to each other and building on the ideas of their peers.
From the Classroom - Stage 3 EAL/D and Mrs Alpay
JAPAN
You must visit Japan because there are lots of fun things to do there.
Japan is made up of over 14000 thousand islands.
It is a very CLEAN and SAFE place to visit!
You should try the delicious food in Japan. Enjoy the tasty fresh sushi and ramen.
Visit in springtime to see the stunning cherry blossoms.
Fantastic fun facts about Japan: Japan’s traditional Christmas meal is KFC. The number 4 is extremely unlucky. Japanese trains are one of the fastest trains in the world. Its good manners to slurp your noodles.

Our Breakfast Club has been a huge success every Wednesday morning. Our teachers volunteer their time each week to prepare and serve our students a healthy breakfast to prepare them for learning. Thank you to our sponsors who donate money and items to enable this program to run each week.
Free Hampers for Our School Community
We have been so grateful that we have been able to help out our families during these difficult times of increased prices and uncertain times. Last term we handed out over 300 free hampers to our school community.
Parents and carers express interest through the link shared via Audiri (old Skoolbag) and we send an SMS when it is your turn to pick up from our community room. Thanks to Dignity for helping us make this happen for our community.
Crunch and Sip
What is Crunch & Sip?
Crunch & Sip is a time during the school day for children to re-fuel with vegetables or fruit and rehydrate by drinking water in the classroom.
Why Crunch & Sip?
Many children do not eat the recommended serves of fruit and vegetables. Vegetable consumption is particularly low, with recent government research revealing that only 6% of Australian children eat enough. Crunch & Sip is the perfect opportunity to eat extra serves of these foods essential to good health. Children who don’t drink enough water during the day can become dehydrated, irritable, experience headaches and may have difficulty concentrating in class. Schools implementing the Crunch & Sip program allow each child to have a water bottle in the classroom to sip on throughout the day.
How to participate in Crunch & Sip
Please send children to school each day with:
• an extra serve of vegetables or fruit to eat in the classroom
• a clean bottle filled with water
The vegetables and fruit provided for Crunch & Sip should be in addition to those already included in the lunchbox.
Crunch & Sip at Liverpool Public School.
Students will be asked to bring a piece of fruit or some vegetables and a water bottle to participate in daily Crunch and Sip session in classrooms. These will run between 10:00 and 10:30 each morning. The focus will be on healthy eating and the benefits to our learning. This is part of our PDH Curriculum We encourage our families to ensure students have access to a piece of fruit or a vegetable ready for Crunch & Sip.
Sport News
At Liverpool Public School we work hard to ensure that our students appreciate the importance of team spirit. Team spirit is the feeling of pride and loyalty that exists among the members of a team and that makes them want their team to do well or to be the best.

Rugby League PSSA 2023:
Congratulations to all students who participated in Rugby League this year. It was a new and unknown sport for most students, yet they went into each game with enthusiasm and a willingness to improve. 2023 was a building year for Liverpool PS in Rugby League and with the improvements demonstrated throughout the year from each student, Liverpool PS will be a tough team next year. It was great to see the interest in the sport grow and the connections made between students from our school and others.
I look forward to another year of coaching Rugby League in 2023.

Student Leadership
SRC News
Due to the extra events and activities in August, SRC has had a few interruptions to their regular meetings. However, the students have still been busy!
Since Week 3, SRC members have been monitoring 3-6 class lines at the beginning of school, as well as after lunch and recess. The first, second and third class who are ready are reward with points. These points are being tallied and at the end of the term the winning class will receive a prize. Soon, SRC hope to extend this to the K-2 area and work out a way to display the points so students and teachers can monitor their class points.
The SRC Fundraising Committee are planning two fundraising events before the end of the year. In term 3, there will be a Daffodil Day, where students will be asked to wear yellow and bring in a gold coin donation. All funds from our Daffodil Day will be given to the Cancer Council to help with cancer research. Next term, there will be a Steward House Day, raising funds for child in need.
The Playground Committee has been working closely with the School Ambassador on how safe, respectful behaviour in the playground can be promoted. Currently they are working on the idea of a video competition to create a short 1-minute class video to demonstrating the expected behaviour in each zone of the playground. This competition will be kicked off in week 8, and further details will be shared with students and teachers.
Finally, the Events Committee is planning a school disco early next term. This will be a free event and will be run during lunch and recess, so look out for more information regarding this exciting, fun activity.

Fruit & Veg Month 2023
Our school is participating in Fruit & Veg Month 2023.
This year’s theme is: Fruit & Vegie STEMs!
Fruit & Veg Month is a fun and free event for NSW primary schools that puts a positive focus on fruit and vegetables for an entire month. Fruit & Veg Month 2023 will be held from Monday 28 August to Friday 22 September.
Each year Fruit & Veg Month has a special theme to inspire kids to get interested in eating, enjoying and learning about fruit and vegetables. This year’s theme ‘Fruit & Vegie STEMs’ is about learning about fruit and vegetables through subjects like maths, science and technology.
Students will get curious and look at the science, maths and technology of fruit and veg.
- What do they need to grow?
- How do they get transported and stored so they keep fresh and safe?
- What happens in our bodies when eat them?
- How to do a fruit & veg science experiment?
The whole community will also take part in fun school activities.
Liverpool Public School will join hundreds of other schools across NSW to explore this concept during Fruit & Veg Month in 2023, with the theme ‘Fruit & Vegie STEMs.’
“This year’s theme encourages students to explore fruit and veg from a new and exciting angle” says Healthy Kids Association Senior Project Officer Nienke de Vlieger. “It allows children to connect to fruit and vegetables on a different level, which can encourage eating more and a wider variety of produce. We hope this sparks a life-long love for fruit and veg, or even an interest in STEM”
Students have been provided with free fruit at school to promote healthy eating for the month. For more information, visit fruitandvegmonth.com.au.
Fruit & Veg Month 2023 Student Competition
Students are creating a portrait of themselves as fruit and veg scientists the classroom. To keep with the STEM theme, we’d like to see digitally created ones (for example with MS Paint) or even “engineered” 2D or 3D creations. They can use anything they can find in their environment. The sky is the limit! Think for example using building blocks, school supplies, paper scraps, objects in class, fruits and vegetables, skewers and glue, cutlery etc.
