School Newsletter Term 3, Week 10
Friday 22nd September 2023
Kia ora West End Whānau,
Term 3 has been action packed at West End School!
We have enjoyed a lot of sport (RICOH tournament, Riverdale Sports Exchange, Volleyball, Winter Extra-Curricular Sports), visits to wildbase, visits to to Te Manawa, Maths Week, Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori, Powhiri, visits from Namiki High School (Japan), PTA Disco events, “The Search for SOAP” whole school production at the Regent Theatre, Swimming lessons, Music Lessons, Tongan Language Week, EPRO8, Mathex competitions, Dance NZ Made, Three Way Conferences and much more. That is before we even talk about all of the progress, whakamana, and learning that has been happening in every classroom across our school.
I would like to thank all of our WES whānau for your ongoing support of our kura. I would also like to thank the amazing West End School Staff for their collective efforts this term. It is fantastic to see the strength of our Kotahitanga between school and home working together to ensure we provide our tamariki with the best learning experience possible.
Last Friday, we enjoyed a PTA Quiz Night hosted in our school hall. Thank you to Nadia Fovakis and the West End School PTA, sponsors, parents helpers, staff, and all who supported the event. It was a great evening and the funds raised will go towards supporting Te Wao Nui O Tāne Camp costs in 2024.
Next term, on Wednesday 22 November, as part of the Te Maiaho - New Zealand Curriculum refresh we will be attending a staff only day hosted by the Ministry of Education along with a number of other schools from Palmerston North. This will be held on 22nd November. Please mark this in your calendars that school will not be open for instruction on this day.
To all, I wish a safe, happy, and relaxing school holiday and I look forward to seeing everyone back at school for a great Term 4.
Ngā mihi nui,
Photolife Codes will be sent out next term

Term 4 is Sunhat Season!
A reminder that as we approach Term 4, all students are required to wear a wide brimmed sunhat during times they are outside - including all breaks and times that classes are in the sun. Please provide a hat for your child to wear from the start of term. No caps allowed as we need hats that will protect your child's neck and ears - refer picture below. Please also pop some sunscreen in your child's bag to keep them sun safe.

We are sending kura within our region a guide to our free event, Art Trail Manawatū 14th and 15th of October (see guide attached).
This is an opportunity for whānau and Kaiako to connect with local artists who are eager to share their practice with the wider community.
The trail can be as short or as long as required, you can take your time at each venue and plan short or long trips in between. Start and finish wherever you like.
We would love for our free event to be a highlight in your calendar, when spring is well underway in our beautiful region.
Everyone can access their own trail guides at www.communityarts.org.nz
