SOUTHERN PLAINS 4-H NEWSLETTER

PLEASE, take this time to go in to 4-H Online, and re-enroll for the 2023-2024 4-H Season.

(The site is closed from Sept 30 thru Oct 15 for maintenance)

Points to remember:

*You Must Enroll each Year! Leaders, Volunteers, Council & Youth!

*Update your existing profile, DO NOT START A NEW ONE, unless you are truly NEW!

*Enrolling early ensures that you continue to receive the Newsletters, and allows planning to begin for the year.

*Be sure your information is correct! Checking dates, grades, address changes etc. may get overlooked as the information autofill's so please review it carefully for accuracy!

*Don't forget to tell your friends and invite anyone new that might be interested.

*You will still have time to add or delete projects, but getting started now is helpful.

• Don't forget, the checks are dated and void after 120 days! Don't delay, get yours today!
• Ribbon Premiums have been mailed out. This Premium comes from the Thayer County Ag Society/Fairboard and is assigned by amount per ribbon placing. So be sure to say thanks when you see those individuals!
• If you brought a cake for the Cake Auction during the fair, I have your checks ready! Please write a thank you note to the person who purchased your cake, and drop it off at the office with a stamp on it. Be sure to ask for your check in return. If you don't know who purchased your cake give us a call and I can help! Thanks to all who purchased cakes! And thanks to Little Blue Country Kids, Gina Hudson, and Brad Elting Auctioneer for making this such a success!
• Livestock Premium checks are signed and available for you. You should have received a letter that says how much your check will be. Attached to that page will be mailing labels for the sponsors that you need to write thank you(s) for. Simply, write the thank you(s), return it to the office, stamped, and ask for your check.

Applications Due by November 1

Applicants should display exemplary service, determination, and dedication to 4-H. Go above and beyond the duties asked of them, volunteering and helping wherever needed, even in the face of adversity. They should show grit, determination, and outstanding leadership skills. They may be an adult or 4-Her. Anyone may nominate, by completing the form.

The Thayer County 4-H Council has updated the the scholarship application to hopefully assist our 4-H youth to be able to use one application for several opportunities. It has been made to ask the same type of questions the achievement application asks. These opportunities include:

• County Awards if handed in by November 1st
• County Scholarship if handed in by December 15th
• State Awards if emailed to 4HAchieves@unl.edu by January 5th
• Nebraska 4-H Foundation if emailed to 4HAchieves@unl.edu by January 5th including a few additional articles of information.

* Attention 8 yr olds, please apply for the 1st Yr. 4-Her Award

Youth must be 14 by Jan 1st 2024 to be considered for a place on the ballot.

Are you interested in serving on the Nuckolls County 4-H Council? If so please contact the office by October 15th! 402-225-2381

Enroll in 4-H 2024!!! Then come to the office and correctly identify the SIX different tree leaves displayed in the office window and tell us the slogan. Win a Prize!!! Do you like trees and learning about how to identify them?? There is a Tree ID Contest in the spring, and we would love to form a team and take a group to compete. Let us know!
