Dragon News
Findley Elementary School
May 14, 2021
MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Greetings Findley Families,
Thank you for all of the appreciation last week. What an amazingly generous and thoughtful community we have here at Findley. Our teachers and staff work hard, and your gratitude for that hard work was very much appreciated.
While vaccinations are becoming more available and case counts are declining in the United States, we are very aware of the devastation that COVID-19 is still having around the world and in particular, in India. We want to offer support to our students and families who may be struggling during this time due to family and friends living in other countries who are suffering. We are available to talk individually with students, create support groups, and identify resources for your children and your family.
Please don't hesitate to reach out and allow us to support you in any way we can. Also, included in this newsletter, we have provided some resources that may be of interest to you. Please contact us with any questions or if we can help in any other way.
Lastly, to our Muslim families, Eid Mubarak!
Enjoy the sunny weekend, all~

Watch for our Crossing guards as they are in the middle of the street. If they are in the street crossing students, the law requires you to wait until they have returned to the sidewalk. Please be considerate of our staff that are keeping our students safe.
Safe Routes to School
Dear Findley Parents and Guardians,
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads.
The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.
Thank you,
Leah Biado-Luis

Way to Go Elise (4th Grade)
We have another state finalist in our midst! Congratulations to Elise T. (Mrs. Ray's 4th grade class) for being Findley's second state finalist in this annual competition.
Elise's description of her Google doodle:
I find strength in nature. In this doodle, I had chosen to represent strength found in nature using origami. I discovered my love for origami during the covid pandemic. The letter "G". is formed by hummingbirds. They beat their wings 40 times per second, way faster than the blink of an eye. The first letter "o" represents a sunflower that can grow up to 30 feet, taller than I'll ever be! The second letter "o" is formed by Monarch butterflies. I imagine them coming alive and flying up to 3,000 miles during migration. The letter "g" represents an elephant with the strength to hold up to 700 pounds with its trunk, ten times my weight! The letter "i" represents a palm tree that can live for a century or more, older than I can ever be! Finally, the letter "e" is formed by a school of Angelfish working together to fight off a predator- we are stronger by working together. Nature is a gift to me where I derive my strength. I must appreciate it and care for it.
