Updates:

1. Grandparents' Day Luncheon: We are excited to have our grandparents join us for our "Grandparents' Day Luncheon" on Monday, September 12th. Thanks for those who have submitted their reservations. We look forward to seeing you during your learner's lunch time.

2. EXACT Path (Lion Enrichment Time): We have begun our "Exact Path Curriculum" during Lion Enrichment Time. Personalized learning paths have been set based on students' individual learning levels. Students are encouraged to also work on learning paths while at home, as well. Every two weeks, the school recognizes students who have earned mastery levels of 75% or above to post in our hallway display.

3. Just a Reminder: Revamping of Car Dismissal Lines: We are currently working with the Sumter Police Department to revamp our parent pick up line in the afternoons to decrease the amount of cars lined up on busy intersecting roads surrounding the school. A video simulation has been posted to our Facebook page. A map has been posted to our Facebook page and School website. The routes will remain the same. However, the traffic pattern has been modified. The city of Sumter Police will assist us with the transition during afternoon pick up. This will begin Monday, September 12, 2022. This will occur for PM pick up only.

4. We will host our Open House on Tuesday, September 13, 2022 (Drop In 6:00pm - 7:30pm). Parents are welcomed to meet their learner's classroom teacher and learn about classroom expectations. During this time, teachers will be signing parents up for their upcoming parent interim conferences, as well.

5. Instructional Coach Corner:

A) MAP Testing will continue through September 21, 2022. Parents, during the MAP Testing window, please make sure that:

Your child goes to bed early and gets plenty of rest.
Come to school on time
Eat a light breakfast each morning.
Encourage your child to take their time on the test.

B) Title I News

6. We will host our Title One "Fall Parent University" on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 (6:00pm - 7:30pm). Various topics such as how to access live grades through Parent Portal, AVID 101, how to help my learner stay organized, etc. will be presented in rotating sessions. Please join us as you learn the essentials to help your learner navigate the 22-23 school year.

7. Spirit Fridays will occur the second Friday of each month.

8. Counselor's Corner:

Things that can help mental health: • Make a list of 3 self-care strategies to try • Reach out to your school counselor • Start a journal • Learn a breathing practice • Read a great book • Paint or draw • Name three things you are grateful for right now • Close your eyes and take the deepest breath you’ve taken all day. Repeat 3 times • Thank someone for being your family

11. Reading Interventionist Corner:

A child’s success as a reader begins as early as his or her infant stage. Reading, and a love for reading, begins at home. This year I will be sharing tips for parents and guardians to help foster their child reading development.

Tip 1: Talk to your child about the books he or she likes to read. It's always good for children to see that you are interested in what they enjoy, especially when it comes to reading.

Book of the Month: "The Day You Begin" by Jacqueline Woodson.

12. Communication Folders: Communication folders are sent home daily. Please check each day and return.
