______ ELAC: Hold second meeting and send documentation to Special Programs.
OCTOBER
______ Reclassification: Monitor Teacher Input Form completion, schedule and finalize Parent Meetings by October 15. (Parent meetings must be held by the site administrator, per the EL Chair MOU)
______ Reclassification Ceremony Preparation: Send a picture of your ELs that are ready to be reclassified to chaconn@lancsd.org by October 22.

THE STANDARDS
The CA ELD Standards are aligned to the CA CCSS for ELA/Literacy as they amplify (magnify
and make clear) areas of English language development that are crucial for academic learning. The standards emphasize language learning as a social process and language itself as a complex and dynamic meaning-making resource. They promote the notion of supporting English learner (EL) students to develop awareness that different languages and variations of English exist and that their home languages and cultures are valuable resources in their own right and useful for building proficiency in English.
PLANNING FOR ELD INSTRUCTION
English language development instruction ensures that ELs use English purposefully; interact in meaningful ways with peers, content, and texts; and learn about how English works.

California’s newly arrived students from other nations face a particular set of unique needs. This institute, begins with an overview of who these newcomers are, and their cultural and social needs. The institute will then focus on the academic needs of these students to help them succeed in the classroom and beyond. Participants will receive strategies and practical resources they can use right away to create a welcoming environment for newcomer students and facilitate their learning.

English Learner Master Plan Institute: Designing local policy aligned to the California English Learner Roadmap

This interactive institute will help LEA teams create a plan to develop a district-wide English Learner Master Plan aligned to the research-based California English Learner Roadmap policy. Participants will engage in discussions to guide planning for the development of visionary policies, programs, and services that ensure equitable opportunities and outcomes for English learners. Participants will receive resources included in the Center for Equity for English Learners’ English Learner Master Plan Playbook to develop a strategy for beginning or refining their approach to writing their EL Master Plan. Alignment with EL Roadmap principles and elements will be highlighted.
EL RISE! 2021-2022 Offerings
Developing and Strengthening Programs and Services to Meet the Needs of LTELs

This institute will include an overview of what the data says about LTELs across California, a summary of research and key policy changes over the past ten years, findings from a landscape survey of districts across California, examples from districts with promising practices, and key policy recommendations for education leaders. The institute will provide templates and guidance in shaping inquiries into your own LTEL population, and will acquaint participants with resources for developing and strengthening programs and services.

With a focus on Principle 1and 2 of the English Learner Roadmap, bilingual teachers will learn specific skills and strategies for leveraging their students’ and families’ cultural and linguistic assets, celebrating and affirming identity, strengthening classroom community, and facilitating collaborative learning spaces that capitalize on the power of the bilingual brain. Participants will also learn to effectively identify and address the strengths and needs of dual language learners by providing scaffolds and supports using graphic organizers, language functions, and differentiated sentence and response frames.
