Homecoming Dress-Up Spirit Days:

Monday: PJ Day (Dress in comfortable pajamas)

Wednesday: Cancer Awareness Color Day (see list here) (Wear a color in support of cancer research or remembrance)

Thursday: Decades Day (Grade 9 wears the clothing styles of the: 1960s; 10: 1970s; 11: 1980s; & 12: 1990s)

Homecoming Week Special Events:

Tuesday, October 12: Sandwich Project Community Service Event – make sandwiches for the homeless. Goal: 2,500 sandwiches for Eastview’s 25th Homecoming Anniversary. Meet at 2:30 pm in West Commons. All students are welcome!

Wednesday 13th: Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration! - 2:45 – 4:00pm in the Learning Commons. Come and Celebrate with us by learning and playing some new games like La Lotería Mexicana and maybe even trying some easy dance moves! Snacks and prizes will be available and your attendance counts towards points for The Homecoming Cup! ¡Todos son bienvenidos! All are welcome!!!

Wednesday, October 13: Homecoming Tackle Cancer Dodgeball Fundraiser in Eastview’s Main Gym from 6:15 pm - 8 pm Cost: An entrance donation of $1 - $1million. No change will be made. 100% of funds raised go to cancer research. Interested in forming a dodgeball team? See here. All students are welcome!

Friday, October 15: Tailgate on Lightning Plaza at the Homecoming Football Game (vs East Ridge), 5-7 pm. Community booths and food concessions. All students and the greater public are welcome!

All Week:

Homecoming Cup – earn Cup Points for your grade by participating in Homecoming dress-up days, events, and service projects. There will be QR Code check-in at each Homecoming event. The 2021 Homecoming Cup winner will be announced at halftime of the football game on Friday.

Medallion Hunts (Indoor and Outdoor) – Prize $20 cash! Look for daily clues in your Schoology Updates. All students are welcome to join in on the hunt! 100 Homecoming Cup points to the finder of each medallion class.

Community Service (Student Choice) - All volunteering in the community during Homecoming Week will count as 10 Homecoming Cup Points per event. Photo evidence is required via this reporting form. Need some ideas? Pick up trash at your local park, rake an elderly person’s lawn, volunteer at Feed My Starving Children, serve food at a shelter, etc. All are encouraged to volunteer in the community.

Dance Location

The dance will be a blended inside and outside event: Students may dance outside on the East Patio without masks. It may be cold so dress accordingly. Students can also dance inside in the East Commons with masks. The same music will be played in both locations so students can easily move from inside to outside as they choose.

Homecoming Dance & Tickets

Tickets for the Homecoming Dance, held on Saturday, 10/16 from 8-11 pm, may be purchased for $10 at lunch, at the door, or online. All students are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance during lunch to eliminate having to wait in line at the dance. All guests at the Homecoming Dance who do not attend Eastview need to complete a Guest Registration Form. Forms can be picked up in the Main Office. The form needs to be completed by the guest’s home school administration and emailed back to EVHS on Friday, October 15, by 2:30 pm. More information is included on the form.

This year’s Tackle Cancer t-shirts will go on sale starting Wednesday, October 6. You can purchase your t-shirt before school in the west commons or during lunch at the school store which is located at the east end of the commons. T-shirts are $15 and all proceeds will be donated to the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund. Get yours before they are gone.

In need of some new Eastview gear for Homecoming Week? The Eastview School Store which is located at the east end of the commons will be open during all lunches October 6-15. We have a large assortment of new spirit wear which should be arriving soon. Stop down at the Eastview School store to purchase your Eastview gear or Tackle Cancer t-shirt starting next Wednesday, October 6. Go, Lightning!

New bus pickup times began on Monday, October 4. Please check your email and/or Campus Parent account for updated bus times. Please call our transportation office at 651.423.7685 with questions.

All students needing to serve Detention for tardies or for other reasons can begin serving Monday, October 4th. Afternoon Detention can be served on Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays from 2:40-4:00pm in C239. A morning Detention from 6:30-7:35am in Student Services is another option Monday-Friday.

Detentions need to be served within two weeks of notice. Any detention not served by the end of the quarter may result in additional consequences. Thank-you for being Responsible and holding yourself Accountable.

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools

State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.

Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.

Review and Update Emergency Information

If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.

All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.

PSAT Update!

The deadline for EVHS Advanced Placement exam payment is Wednesday, October 20 th and is available on MyPaymentsPlus. Per EVHS policy, students enrolled in an Advanced Placement course are required to take the exam in that course. VARSITY SPORTS

Boys Cross Country - October 5th

The boys cross country team competed at the Victoria Lions Invitational on a beautiful fall afternoon in Minnetrista. Cheered on by fans and farm animals alike at the Galewoods Farm course senior Ethan Taylor continued to storm to the top of his races by placing 6th overall in the JV race with a new personal best time of 18:16. Ethan went out with a string of runners at the lead of the JV race and ran a consistently strong race to hold off the chase pack behind him. In the chase pack were sophomore Charles Mathews and junior Eli Munson. Together they battled amongst the group, with Mathews coming out in a new PR time of 18:48. Rounding out the top 5 for the Lightning were Charley Setterlund in a new PR time of 19:03, finishing just a second behind Munson (19:02), senior Aiden Mekonnen was the final scorer for the Lightning in 19:12. The JV team finished in 5th place overall.

In the varsity race the Lightning continued to be lead by senior Hunter Dunne. Dunne ran with the chase pack behind a group of three leaders through the first 1,000m, but slowly began to pull away from the pack after this point. Throughout the rest of the race he held off every challenge from behind and consistently passed anyone who fell off the pace ahead of him, finishing in 6th place with a time of 16:38, and ahead of all of the other runners he will see again at the section meet. Other competitors for the Lightning were seniors Nate Getman, Max Leach and PJ Lasota, and juniors Jack Hanson and Thomas Adamson.

The final race of the day was the JV C race. After waiting around for nearly 2 hours these runners did not disappoint. Perhaps inspired by his teammates who each had top 6 finishes, sophomore Eduard Levin went out, much like Taylor, with a string of runners at the start of the race. He was bravely able to maintain a top 5 position through the two mile mark, however, was caught by a few runners at the end but was still able to run a one minute PR to finish in 12th place. One of the runners who came by and passed him was his teammate and fellow sophomore Kyle Dungy who broke 20 minutes for the first time and finished in 9th place overall.

Competition Cheerleading

Congratulations to Eastview’s Competition Cheer Team! The team competed in the MCCA’s Great Minnesota CHEER Off competition on Saturday, Oct. 2nd here at Eastview High School.

The team competed in several categories:

Game Situation category - 1st place

Time Out Cheer category - 2nd place

School Song category - 1st place

And, Eastview took home the

Cheer Off Overall - Champions title!

The MCCA also had their tryouts for the All-State Sideline team this past weekend. Congratulations to Mari Glenn from Eastview for making the

All-State Sideline team.

Congratulations again to the Competition Cheer team and Mari Glenn. It is a very nice start to the season.

JV SPORTS

JV Football - Congratulations to the JV football team for earning their 4th win in a row by defeating Eagan 24-18 on Saturday.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Boys volleyball has open gym again this Sunday night from 6-8 pm in the south gym. Come check it out if you want to learn more or you want to play next spring!

New: Intramural Badminton starts on Monday, October 11th at 6:00 – 8:00pm in the main gym. Cost is $40.00 includes a T-Shirt. Please sign up online Families/MyPaymentsPlus on the EVHS homepage. Any questions see Ms. Gilson in attendance after 2nd hour or email connie.gilson@district196.org.

There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, October 12th at 3:00pm in C250.

Be sure to get signed up for Mock Trial. Click here to register. We need to know the numbers so we can submit our teams to the MSBA. The first practice for all returning members will be on Tuesday, October 12th in the learning commons. The first practice for all members will be October 14th from 5-7:00 in the learning commons. Once the sign up window closes, you will not be able to sign up.

We will have our first official Black Student Union + Black Honor Association kickoff meetings on Tuesday, October 12 and Wednesday, October 13. Interested students may attend either one, as they will both include the same information. Come on Tuesday afternoon at 2:35pm or Wednesday morning at 7:10am. Both meetings will take place in C350. The Eastview debate team is off to a great start to their season. Congratulations to Sohan Addagudi, Yonis Hashi, Rhea Rajvansh, Faye Zhang, Malaya Galindez, Caden Hubbs, and Allison Champ (2-times) who have all won varsity championships already this season in their events.

Join Science Olympiad! We will have an informational meeting for new members on Tuesday, October 12th in room C339 at 2:45pm.

Science Olympiad provides students the opportunity to compete in a variety of challenges in the areas of Social Science, Earth & Space, Physics & Chemistry, and Inquiry & Nature. Participants can analyze specific challenges and work collectively as a team to find solutions. The program builds skills in science, helps in creating a technologically-literate workforce and provides recognition for outstanding student achievement.

Hi! We are the EVHS FRC Robotics team! We are currently regrouping from our last season during the pandemic, and are so excited to be back as our preseason commences! We have already begun organizing our subteams and preparing our new robot. However, the preseason is only beginning and we are still happy to accept new members. So if you’re interested in volunteering, engineering, driving robots, or marketing, our team has a place for absolutely everybody. Robotics is a fun and enriching activity and a great community who get to build and compete together. We currently meet Tuesday evenings from 6:30-9:00pm. After our season starts in early January we meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays (same time) as well as Saturdays for all day practice in room B123. Join us!

Over the weekend the Eastview Marching Band left our power grid to travel the competitive band circuit to Sioux Falls, SD. Their preliminaries performance of their “Electrified” show generated a 2nd place finish In Class 4A as well as advancement to the evening’s finals. That is when the EVMB turned up the amps- literally! Their props, percussion, color guard and more featured lighting effects that energized the stadium and surged them to victory. The Lightning truly struck with their “Electrified” performance which not only earned them 1st Place, but top honors as well for Best Drum Line, Best Horn Line, and Best Drum Majors. The EVMB proved to be a crowd and judges favorite at the Festival of Bands USA.

EVMB will be taking their high energy performance to Youth in Music at the US Bank Stadium on October 9th in Class 4A competition.

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) is a Christian youth group for teens at EVHS and RHS. The nights are filled with lots of energy, music, games, and amazing speakers who encourage, challenge, and inspire the students. The group meets every other Monday night from 6:30-8:30 (9 square and other pre-night games from 6:30-7:00, 7pm the speakers etc. begins). The dates we will be meeting during the first half of the year are Sept, 27th, Oct 4th, 18th, Nov 1st, 15th, 29th, and Dec 12th. Wanted: Lifeguards and Swim Instructors

Looking for a fun way to earn some extra money and make an impact on lots of children in our community? The Community Education Aquatics Program is looking for those that are comfortable with their own swimming abilities to help teach swim lessons.
