SUNSET TIMES
January Edition 2024, Sunset Elementary School
A NOTE FROM YOUR ADMIN TEAM
We hope you had a wonderful winter break and special time with loved ones. We need your help getting back into routines at school for setting up your child for success. Our experts at the Sleep Foundation share the following: "... how can parents help their children get back on a sleep schedule for school after summer or holiday breaks? The secret lies in having healthy sleep habits year-round. A regular sleep schedule, as well as a quality sleep environment and other habits of good sleep hygiene, contribute to children’s academic achievements and overall well-being." Further they go on to share the impact lack of sleep can have at school, "A direct way that sleep and school performance are connected is through effects on mental function. Some known problems associated with lack of sleep include decreased attention. The ability to concentrate is vital to learning and academic achievement, but insufficient sleep reduces attention and focus."
Additionally, as we take this opportunity to highlight the importance of attendance, sleeping problems have been tied to increased absenteeism. Your part in nightly routines makes a difference! Please read on here if interested in the importance of sleep habits. Thanks for all you do to ensure your child is getting at least 10 hours of sleep nightly. And don't forget the hour before bed is TECH FREE! Back to School Routines (click for more info).
