Board Approves Tuition-Based Pre-Kindergarten

More information about tuition-based pre-kindergarten will be available soon on the district's website.
The district also will provide a full-day option for 3-year-old students at Bess Race and Oakmont elementary schools by offering the Bright Start Program. This would be an optional, curriculum-based program designed to compliment the traditional "half-day" school option for 3-year-old students at Bess Race and Oakmont. Should a parent desire to have their child in school for a full day, they could pay $50 per week for their to participate in the Bright Start Class.
CISD Names New Deer Creek Principal
Anna Roe was hired as the principal of Deer Creek Elementary School, replacing MaLisa Horton who is retiring. Roe currently works in Granbury ISD where she has served as principal of Acton Elementary School since 2012.
She began her education career in Crowley ISD as a teacher at Jackie Carden Elementary School. Roe has a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Tarleton State University and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Lamar University.
Board Approves 3 New Assistant Principals
Charmaine Campbell was promoted to be an assistant principal at Crowley Middle School. Campbell is currently an instructional support specialist at J.A. Hargrave Elementary School.
Barbara Jones was promoted to be an assistant principal at North Crowley Ninth Grade Campus. Jones is currently an instructional support specialist at that campus.
Markeith West was promoted to be an assistant principal at the B.R. Johnson Career and Tech Center. West is currently an administrative intern at that campus.
Board Swears In Trustees, Elects Officers
Lyndsae M. Benton, Gary Grassia and Ryan Ray were sworn in to begin new three-year terms as trustees.
The board also elected new officers:

CISD Recognizes Valedictorians, Salutatorians
CHS Valedictorian: Savanna Simmank will attend TCU and study Biology.
CHS Salutatorian: Elizabeth Rhodes will attend UTA and study Biomedical Engineering.
NCHS Valedictorian: Brady Barksdale will attend Texas A&M and study Engineering.
NCHS Salutatorian: Trishton Chang will attend the University of Texas in Austin and study Computer Science.
District Honors 8 Duke TIP Students

CISD had 58 seventh-grade students participate in the Duke TIP this year. Eight of these students, an increase of two from last year, qualified for state recognition by scoring at or above the national average of high school juniors and seniors who tested on at least one part of the SAT.
In addition, Crowley had 114 fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grade students qualify for Duke TIP. Students qualify by scoring at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level STAAR test.
Current fourth- and fifth-grade students will take the PSAT in the fall of 2019 and the current sixth-graders will take the SAT.
Board Congratulates UIL State Band, Choir Qualifiers
Student-musicians from the Crowley High School and North Crowley High School bands and choirs were recognized by trustees. They will represent CISD in the UIL State Solo and Ensemble competition in June.

Trustees Honor UIL State Athletic Qualifiers

CISD Recognizes May Heartbeat Winner
Nissa Flores, Summer Creek Middle School counselor's secretary, is the May 2019 Heartbeat Team Award winner.
The award recognizes employees who display heart as they go above and beyond their job description, inspiring other employees through their extraordinary work ethic. Heartbeat team members are nominated only by other district employees.

District Earns Recognition for Financial Reporting
This achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
THE GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving about 17,500 government finance professionals.
Construction Projects Take Shape Across District
Construction on the new B.R. Johnson Career & Tech Center/Crowley Collegiate Academy (pictured above) is on schedule.This state-of-the-art facility will be located next to the Sewell Agricultural Science Center on Longhorn Trail in Crowley.
It is scheduled to open to students in the fall of 2020.
June W. Davis Elementary School (shown above) is nearing completion and will open in the fall.
The school is located off McPherson Boulevard in the Chisholm Trail Ranch neighborhood.
CISD Sees Increase in Grant Funding
The district obtained numerous competitive grants that align to the district initiatives and enhance the overall district budget, totaling more than $15.8 million, in the 2018-19 school year.
2018-19 grants include:
•UT Teacher Externships - $20,000
•Project Lead the Way Cybersecurity - $20,000
•Perkins Reserve Aerial Robotics - $50,000
•United Way - $290,000
•Texas Hurricane Homeless Children and Youth Program Grant - $11,949
•Texas Hurricane Emergency Impact Aid Grant - $56,360
•21st Century Community Learning Center Cycle 10 - $4.5 million (three-year cycle)
•Crime Control & Prevention District (City of Fort Worth) - $125,000
•Evaluation Capacity Grant - $20,000
•School Transformation Planning Grant - $247,857
•School Transformation Implementation Grant - $1.6 million (two-year cycle)
•Texas Network for School Improvement - $4,000
•Early Head Start Expansion Care Partnership - $8.9 million (five-year cycle)
The total amount of competitive grant funding for 2017-18 was about $2 million.
Trustees Approve New Early Childhood Program
Trustees approved extending the district's partnership with Child Care Associates to provide an early childhood program for the children of adolescent parents and income-eligible families in the CISD community.
The program will begin in August at J.A. Hargrave Elementary School and will operate 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
Early Head Start is a federally funded, community-based program for income-eligible families. This program is designed to meet the educational needs of very young children.
Children ages 6 weeks to 3-years-old are eligible to attend.
The early learning center will house six classrooms and an age-appropriate outside learning space, one parent meeting space and an office for the program's administrative staff.
This resource is available through a grant awarded to Child Care Associates and Crowley ISD. The $8.9 million grant will be awarded to the district over the span of five years.
