Joint Communication: APLE & PYLUSD
Multi-Year Tentative Agreement Reached
Dear PYLUSD Community,
The Placentia-Yorba Linda Unified School District (PYLUSD) and the Association of Placentia Linda Educators (APLE) are pleased to announce a two-year tentative agreement, pending board approval and APLE ratification, for the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years. The details of the agreement include a 4% ongoing raise for 2023-2024 as well as a 2% one-time, off-schedule payment, both retroactive to July 1, 2023. The agreement also includes a 2% ongoing raise for 2024-2025, which will go into effect July 1, 2024.
"Our teachers are the best in the business and deserve to be compensated as such,” Superintendent Dr. Alex Cherniss shared. “This tentative agreement values their contributions and also lays out a plan to make PYLUSD a lighthouse district for many years to come.”
The tentative agreement also provides the ability for the district to attract and retain high-quality teachers by matching their years of service from other districts. It also includes a multi-year agreement on the work calendars for the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 school years. Other details of the tentative agreement include but are not limited to an increase and reorganization of extra duty stipends and other items as stated in the agreement.
“APLE is pleased to reach this agreement with the district. For decades, APLE teachers have worked to provide a high-quality education that has resulted in this district being an exemplary, award-winning school district in California. APLE members look forward to continuing this important work for the families in our community,” said APLE President Linda Manion.
"This agreement is historic for our district as we have never in recent history secured a multi-year contract on total compensation and calendar; which will provide long-term fiscal stability for our district and allows for our families to make personal and travel plans well into the future. Great teachers deserve to be compensated for putting kids first and this agreement does just that,” noted Board President Leandra Blades.
The district’s and APLE’s negotiation teams led this important and collaborative process. Members of the district team include Dr. Issaic Gates, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources; Dr. Olivia Yaung, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services; Gary Stine, Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services; Nancy Blade, Executive Director of Human Resources; Renee Gray, Executive Director of Special Education; Dr. Richard Dinh, Principal of Yorba Linda High School; and Kristin McDonald, Principal of Golden Elementary School. Members of APLE’s negotiation team include Cliff Schuster, APLE Executive Director; Jim Fox, APLE Bargaining Chair; and APLE bargaining members Jeremy Kelly, Marge Cooley, and Karen Aleksic.
The district will share additional details regarding the tentative agreement at future meetings to ensure site leadership is versed in the details of the agreement. Administrators are grateful to district teachers and all staff for going above and beyond to create a positive and enriching educational experience for PYLUSD students.
