Principal's Corner
Greetings Harvey Dunn Families,
If you have an upcoming Kindergarten student, please go online to register your child for the 2023-24 school year. If you have a friend or neighbor who will be entering their first child in school, please inform them of registration as well. Children must be 5 on or before September 1, 2023 to register for Kindergarten. Please visit the following LINK for registration. We are so excited for our young Harvey Dunn Tigers - Class of 2036 to join us!
Speaking of the start of a new school year, we will be working on the 23-24 class rosters later this spring. In doing so, it is incredibly important to balance the classrooms in areas such as students' academic needs, social needs, emotional needs, etc. If you believe you have information about your child that would be necessary for our administration team to know as we create balanced 23-24 class rosters, you may pick up and complete the Parent Input Form from the school office. Please understand, the Parent Input Form is not a teacher request form. It is our job as an administrative team to know our staff and to match your child's needs with a teacher while creating balanced classrooms. The information you share on the form will remain confidential. The completed Parent Input Form is due to the school office by April 11, 2023.
Kindest regards,
Mrs. Chamberlain, Principal
Counselor Corner
Hello, Harvey Dunn families!
In December's newsletter, I wrote to you that Harvey Dunn students have been working to build up a "toolbox" of strategies that they can use to cope with different emotions when they find themselves feeling dysregulated. This month, I want to share a little more about the background of this work, and the framework we use as a school to support students as they learn to self-regulate.
At Harvey Dunn, we use the Zones of Regulation to help students build emotional vocabulary, identify a range of emotions, recognize what different emotions feel like for them, and choose strategies to help them regulate when they are not feeling at their best. The Zones teaches students that all emotions and feelings are okay - everyone experiences those less comfortable feelings of anger, sadness, frustration, etc. However, the Green Zone is the "sweet spot" where we are ready to focus and do our best learning at school. Managing big emotions does not always come naturally, and so the Zones provides a framework to explicitly talk about and practice emotion management.
Below you will see a graphic from the Zones of Regulation curriculum showing the four basic zones - the Blue Zone, Green Zone, Yellow Zone, and Red Zone - and the emotions that fit within each different zone. Through our daily Tiger Times, classroom counseling lessons, and teacher-led activities, we work with students to build their capacity to recognize what Zone they are in and choose an appropriate way to cope with their emotions.
I encourage you to ask your student to explain each of the Zones to you, and what strategies they know for getting back to Green! If you would like more information about the Zones, reach out to Mrs. Craghead!

Parking Lot Reminders
Students' safe arrival to and departure from school is a top priority. Please take time to review the reminders below. We are all here for the same reason, the children. When we all follow the guidelines during drop off, you help your child start their day off in a positive and safe manner, as well as the other families around you. Thank you for doing your part to make this process and procedure work.
- Park vehicles in the parking lot and walk students to and from the school using the crosswalks. If you are choosing to drop off students, use the circle drive or north drive.
- Only vehicles with handicap parking permits can park in the handicap spots.
- When pulling up in the circle drive or north drive before or after school remain in your vehicle and move forward as the line moves. This helps keep traffic moving.
- Students exit on the passenger side of the vehicle. In the circle drive, once you are in the student drop-off zone, students exit the vehicle. When more students are exiting the vehicles, we are able to move traffic through more efficiently.
- The north drive might be a faster alternative for morning drop-off when the circle drive is busy. Remain in your vehicle and move forward as the line moves. This helps keep traffic moving.
Breakfast & Lunch
Breakfast begins at 7:30am. Each grade level has a separate lunch time (see schedule).
Lunch money can be deposited into your child’s account by using the MySchoolBuck on-line system. MySchoolBuck App is available on the Apple Store and Google Play.
