A Message from the Administrative Team
Dear WJHS Families,
Please see the message below from the WJHS Student Council about next Friday's Winter Dance!
Bonjour!
Dance Tickets on Sale NOW!
Head over to RevTrak in PowerSchool (where you pay your student fees) today, Friday, February 16th, and buy a ticket for your student! Please only buy one ticket for your student - only WJHS students will be allowed to join the dance. Tickets WILL NOT be sold at the door, and ticket sales will close Thursday, February 22nd, so please buy a ticket now!
Attached here is an FAQ doc for students and parents to look over before the dance!
Student Council is still in need of refreshment donations to sell at the dance! Please be aware that your generous donations are the only snacks and drinks (besides school water fountains) that will be available for student purchase. Refreshments will be sold for $1 and all proceeds will be donated to the New Trier Township Food Pantry, and any remaining snacks and bottled drinks will also be donated to the pantry.
Thank you to everyone who signed up to be parent volunteers! Please look out for an email from Student Council advisors next week.
Au Revoir! See you next Friday!
- WJHS Student Council
We are very excited to support our students next week by supervising the Winter Dance! We are encouraging our students to leave their phones with you when then get dropped off for the dance, but we will also provide anyone who is attending the dance a baggie in their homeroom period on Friday. They can prepare the baggie for the dance in advance and it will be an easy drop off after they enter the main doors. Here is the cell phone policy for the dance.
We hope that you have a wonderful weekend!
Kate, Eric and Nicole
Winter Clubs!
We have updated our WJHS Winter Clubs. We have linked the lists below:
*After school clubs are open to students in both grades.
Lost & Found
As you can imagine, lunch boxes that are left behind at school, start to get pretty smelly after a couple of days! We hold off on throwing them away until the end of every month, but they do become pretty disgusting. If you believe your child has left behind a lunch bag/box/container at school, please come to WJHS as soon as possible to look through the lost and found. We cannot keep these after 30 days for the reasons outlined above. Thanks!
Safety Concerns at Drop-Off and Pick-Up
The safety of students is our top priority and we need your assistance when it comes to dropping off and picking up your children. Morning supervision begins at 7:55 AM and the doors open at 8:15 AM. Students have 10 minutes to get to their lockers and then homeroom once the front doors open. On days when there is inclement weather, students wait in the auditorium until 8:15.
We understand that dropping off or picking up your child from school can be hectic, in particular in the winter months when fewer children walk and ride bikes. The district creates maps and instructions for drop-off and pick-up. I am linking ours here. Families may use the front circle drive for drop-off and pick-up, and may also coordinate a safe place to drop off and pick up that is planned in advance. For example, many families drop off their children at the corner of Wilmette Ave. and Locust Rd. and then students walk the last couple of blocks to school. Whatever you decide, please do not allow your child to run across the middle of Locust Rd. We have a crosswalk directly in front of WJHS and the Mikaelian Education Center and ask that you please remind your child to use this crosswalk if they are dropped off on the west side of Locust, and to not run across the road in front of moving vehicles to try and get to the school. Thank you for your help.

SEL News
FEBRUARY:
The month of February is Black History Month. While learning about and honoring the contributions of Black Americans to the history of our country and their impact on our world today, is something we do year-round at school, this month is a great time for families also to set aside time to recognize these trailblazers and engage in learning about the contributions of African-Americans...especially in our area. Did you know that the Bronzeville neighborhood in Chicago is considered the birthplace of Black History Month?
A couple of family-friendly opportunities include the Chicago History Museum Family Event for Black History Month or the Multiple Events, both musical and historical at the Field Musuem. In Wilmette, children are offered the opportunity to participate in the Village's annual Black History Month contest or visit the Wilmette Public Library for one of their events.
Engaging in these activities as a family supports your child in developing their social-emotional skills as they learn about identity, engage in perspective-taking, and celebrate many various traditions and experiences.

Calling all WJHS students! District 39 is starting a video project by students, for students, called “Socially Acceptable.” This series of short videos will help teach students how to navigate situations on social media. Local theater teachers will assist with both the script-writing and acting, and no experience is necessary! We ask that those interested in participating please view this flyer for more information, including how to sign-up. We are excited to launch this new D39 project in the spring!
