The Patton Post
Friday, December 8th

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, December 8th
We have had a fantastic week at Patton this week! MAP testing started this week and will go through next week - teachers should have communicated precise dates and times for these tests but please do reach out if you have any questions. A good night's sleep the night before and a nutritious breakfast are always helpful for testing days! Thank you for partnering with us on this! So far, everything has gone well! Please don't panic if your child is not feeling well on a day that MAP testing is scheduled to take place! We always provide makeup tests so please don't worry if your child misses a day on which a MAP test is scheduled. We would always rather students take these tests when they are feeling healthy and well!
I had such a FUN night at the 2nd Grade Musical Performance of "Squirm!" last night! It was a delight to see our 2nd Graders wriggle and jiggle and giggle as they performed for a packed out commons full of their families! Mr. Whitaker is always able to get the absolute BEST out of our students and it always amazes me how prepared they are and how much fun they seem to be having! I hope any of you that were able to attend enjoyed it as much as I did!
Have a lovely weekend!

ABC/25 FOUNDATION COMPETITION WINNERS! (NEW POST!)
We had much excitement this morning when 2 of our Panthers and a couple of friends arrived in AHPD squad cars! Amelia and Franklin Musolf's family were incredibly lucky and won the "ABC/25 Foundation" competition to be driven to school by our wonderful SRO's! To say Amelia and Franklin were delighted is an understatement! Thank you to everyone for your patience at drop off this morning!
PATTON SPIRIT WEEK - MON 18th - FRIDAY 22nd DECEMBER (NEW POST!)
Our awesome student council always likes to celebrate the last week before winter break with some fun "Theme Days"! As always, please do not feel any pressure to do all (or ANY!) of these! We know this is a crazy time of year!
PATTON SPREADS JOY - THANK YOU! (NEW POST!)
The "Patton Spreads Joy" event the PTA hosted last Friday was so festive and certainly put everyone in the mood for the season! It was also lovely to see many former Panthers come and sing or play with the Thomas band and choirs that performed. Thank you to those that came for your generous donations and HUGE thanks to the PTA for organizing such a special event. I hope everyone that came had a great time!
MAP TESTING (NEW POST!)
5th GRADE MUSICAL KICK OFF - PARENT MEETING - THURS., DECEMBER 14th (NEW POST!)
The excitement is building for the 2023-2024 5th Grade musical: Frozen! The 5th grade team and Mr. Whitaker would like to remind all 5th Grade families about the kick-off meeting for Frozen, scheduled for next Thursday, December 14th at 7:00pm in the Patton Commons.
This meeting will answer any questions you may have regarding the musical, the audition process (starting on January 19th), and provide parents the opportunity to volunteer. Our 5th grade musical would not be possible without the help of Patton's amazing 5th grade parents!
Our 5th graders will also be hitting the stage on Thursday, December 14th to perform not one, but two songs from Frozen. Because the entire 5th grade will be performing, it is important your child also be at the kick-off meeting! And don’t forget…there will be prizes!
If you have any questions before the kick-off meeting on Thursday, December 14th, please feel free to reach out to us at pattonproductionteam@sd25.org.

MATH CONTEST WINNERS! (NEW POST!)
Mrs Cioni is delighted to announce the winners of the 4th and 5th Grade ICTM Math Contests! All the students have had such a lot of fun this session and are looking forward to February when it returns!
COLD WEATHER RECESS (2nd POST!)
Please be mindful that students will go out for recess every day as long as the wind chill is above zero and it is not raining. Please ensure your Panthers come to school dressed for the weather. If there is snow on the ground, students will not be able to play on the field or the playground unless they are wearing snow pants and boots. They will need to remain on the blacktop only if they do not have appropriate snow gear. Gloves and hats are important when the weather is cold even if students choose not to bring boots and snow pants.
Students are encouraged to bring in a bag of snow gear each day "just in case" - this also helps minimize any classroom disruptions with items being dropped into the office after school is in session. Please ensure all items are labeled clearly so we can reunite any lost gloves/hats/boots with their owners quickly and easily.
Please also have students bring their snow gear bags home with them over the weekend so clothes can be washed and dried and "refreshed" for the following week! Damp clothes can get a bit smelly when left in the classroom!
Thank you so much for working with us on this front, it is hugely appreciated!
LOST AND FOUND (UPDATED POST!)
ALERT! NEW ITEMS ADDED!!
Believe it or not, even though it has only been a few weeks since we donated our entire lost and found, we are already overflowing with hoodies and hats and coats galore!
As the weather gets a bit chillier, I'm sure some of these items will come in VERY handy so please do remind your child/ren to come and take a look.
Parents/guardians/care givers are also welcome to come in and take a look as we know that students aren't always the best at remembering to come and have a look or recognizing their lost items. A mom came in to have a look today and found THREE items! She was delighted!
All items will be donated before winter break. If you're coming by for the 5th Grade Musical Kick-Off Meeting (Dec. 14th), please do take a look at all our items and claim anything that is yours. Feel free to stop by at other times or if you recognize something in the NEW PHOTOS, let your child's teacher know your child has something to claim in the lost and found. We will help them collect their missing items.
Please know, we do always go through each item to look for a name and any items that are labelled are returned to the student straight away!
Beginning December 18th, we will pack up remaining items to donate before winter break.
HOMEWORK CLUB - DECEMBER (Ongoing POST!)
Homework club is returning for December!! This is a wonderful space and opportunity for students to catch up on some homework, enjoy quiet reading time and ask for help if they need it!
This will run Thursday 7th, 14th and 21st December.
If your child is interested, please SIGN UP HERE and be sure to enter your child's name when signing up! There are only a few spots remaining each week!
SPARE CLOTHES FOR THE NURSE (2nd POST!)
If any of your kiddos have experienced a growth spurt recently and you find yourself with any extra pants, socks, shirts, or hoodies, please consider donating them to our school nurse! Mrs Staniak is always grateful for any extra items that she can loan out to students should they need them, especially as the ground outside gets a bit wet and mushy. If you know your child has a tendency to get wet socks when they play outside, please include a clean, dry pair of socks in their backpack or their snow gear bag. Let them know it is there if they need to change into fresh socks after recess.
PARENT ACADEMY (Ongoing Post)
The District recently launched its new Parent Academy newsletter and page on the website.
The goal of Parent Academy is to provide learning opportunities for parents to better understand ways to support their students’ academic success and personal well-being. We welcome parents and families to engage in various activities and events to explore topics related to mental health, well-being, equity and inclusion, and academics. Please visit the website (www.sd25.org/ParentAcademy) for archived newsletters, further resources and information, or to submit an idea/topic for the next Parent Academy newsletter.
