Miller Elementary Weekly Update
September 15, 2023
Mrs. Goodman's Message
Hello Miller Families!
The cooler temps set in this week but we all enjoyed the sunny afternoon days! We loved seeing your little ones all dressed up for picture day this past Wednesday. I want to thank our PTO volunteers for helping us have a smooth picture taking experience. There were so many cute smiles, dressy outfits, and the excitement was just contagious. It will take a few weeks for Ripcho Studios to print our school pictures and we will send home all photo packages once they arrive. We have tentatively scheduled re-takes and first-time photos if your child was absent for Tuesday, November 14th. Please stay tuned for more information.
On Wednesday, September 20th and Thursday, September 21st our cafeteria is hosting an event called Nutrition for Life which is an opportunity for all full-day kindergarten children to receive a free school lunch on these two days! We want to welcome all of kindergarten through the lunch-line to get a lunch from our cafeteria. Please make sure your child knows if they are packing or trying the school lunch. This will be a fun two days in our cafeteria with Ms. Stacy and Mr. Brandon!
Wednesday - Pancakes, Sausage Patty, Crispy Tater Tots, Fresh Banana, Warm Apple Crisp, Milk
Thursday - Popcorn Chicken Bowl - Popcorn Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Gravy, Peaches, Milk
(Please see the Lunch Menu below for all food labels and nutrition information.)
Our preschoolers have been busy making new friends, playing in their classrooms, and practicing their turn-taking skills! We work on their social and emotional development by helping them develop the words and language to have a conversational exchange back and forth, how to wait for a turn or asking to join in and play too! At home, you can practice these same skills by playing games and helping your child take a turn, wait their turn or ask for help!
This past week, our kindergartners had a chance to partner with our 5th graders at Leighton to create a special Enchanted Fairy Forest right here in our outdoor learning spaces. We were tasked to create fairies that would be placed in a natural fairy house made by our 5th graders at Leighton. Our kindergarten classes took a walk on our nature path to check out the Fairy Forest and had a wonderful time. Our preschoolers will be going on a visit to the Fairy Forest this upcoming week. This connection with Leighton and Miller has been a lot of fun and your family is invited to visit the Fairy Forest this weekend! You can find the path by looking for the musical chimes station on the Leighton playground and you'll see the opening to the nature path or there is an opening on the paved path between Four Seasons and Leighton. Simply follow the signs and you'll be led to our outdoor learning space. Have so much fun visiting our Fairy Forest with your family!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Lost and Found
Miller Parent Pick-Up & Attendance Reporting 23-24
This is a reminder that we are using our Miller Attendance and Parent Pick-up Form as an easy communication tool to report your child will be absent or you need to pick them up from school early. You still need to use the Alternative Bus Stop Form linked in this newsletter if you need your child's bus to change. You do not need to report if they will not be riding the bus in the morning due to an absence or illness on this form.
If you want to change your child from a bus rider to a parent pick-up, please scan the QR code below or click the button to fill out our Google form. This can be done from any device and your reply will be sent immediately to our secretary, Mrs. Wolf.
If you need an alternative bus stop or a change in busing, we also have attached the transportation forms to change your child's busing information. These forms need to be completed and sent to our transportation department at transportationinfo@aurora-schools.org
Important Reminder About Birthday Celebrations & Invitations
Celebrating birthdays and holidays can be a fun tradition for many. We want to remind everyone that we ask that birthday invitations do not come to school so that this can be handled with care from each individual family and not through the schools. Often times there can be hurt feelings or lost items that can become more problematic than intended, so it's best if families take care of this special delivery.
This is also a friendly reminder that all birthday or holiday items that come into school need to be non-food items. With our young children, there are many allergies and family preferences about food and treats so we ask that no food or candy is sent into the classroom except for a specific request from the classroom teacher. Suggested birthday items could be a small item, a book donated to the classroom, or something fun for everyone to enjoy to remember your child's special day. Thank you for your cooperation!
School Wide PBIS Skill of the Week
Always remember that children can't be rushed through developmental stages. They need plenty of time to practice, play and experience opportunities to share, take turns and wait. Please see some ideas listed below to work on these skills at home too!
Updates From Our School Counselor ~ Mrs. Ambrosia
Hello Miller! Part of my role as a school counselor consists of connecting families with varying resources. You will note a link to a list of Community Resources should you wish to explore resources for your child outside of the school setting. During the school year, Miller offers a variety of opportunities to assist families with financial needs through partnering with our PTO. By reaching out to me via phone, email or in-person, I can assist your student with funds for upcoming Book Fairs or the Holiday Shop, holiday gifts, Thanksgiving “baskets,” winter clothing including jackets, pants and boots; purchase of the class T-shirt, purchase of a yearbook, school supplies and any other need brought to my attention. Please do not hesitate to contact me with the slightest concern. Feel free to simply let me know what you need, and I’ll connect with you to ensure this need is fulfilled!

Updates From Nurse Jackie Pawlowski
Here are some important reminders to ensure the safety of our school community each day:
- Check your child each day for illness symptoms. If they begin to feel ill, please know she will assess your child and make contact with a family member when necessary.
- Students sent home with a fever or vomiting, may not return to school until they are fever or vomit-free without medication for at least 24 hours. This means if your child was sent home on Tuesday with a fever, he/she may not return to school until Thursday. If your child does return the next day, our school will be calling for you to come and pick him/her up. Please help to support our efforts in this area.
- We will use Final Forms to communicate any health concerns or communicable diseases that may arise in your child's class. Such examples include strep throat, pink eye, and COVID. This will allow you to closely monitor your child for any similar symptoms.
- Please make sure your Final Forms medical information is up to date. We will closely read the health sections to address any medical concerns.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email our school nurse Jackie Pawlowski at jpawlowski@aurora-schools.org.
