Kent Career Tech Center (KTCT) Information
KCTC is focused on you. Your goals. Your future. Wherever you want to go, we help you get there. College, certifications, internship, apprenticeship, technical training, and a rewarding career are what we prepare you for - all while you're still in high school.
If you are interested in attending KCTC please review important information below to help you learn more, courses offered, and how to apply to attend.
KCTC Program Visits
KCTC offers two types of program visits (you can go to either or both):
KCTC Tours (Sept 14-Oct 26)
A 2-hour building-wide tour and presentation offers an opportunity to explore the nearly 30 programs and state-of-the-art technology KCTC has to offer (See below for more information).
KCTC Career Pathways Visits (Nov-March)
Students seeking an in-depth KCTC experience may be interested in scheduling a pathway-focused visit. KCTC’s 30 programs are part of the six career pathways identified by the state of Michigan.
More information and a sign-up for the Career Pathway Visit will come out in October.
KCTC Full 30-program Tours
Visiting KCTC programs allows students to make wise scheduling decisions for the 2024-2025 school year. A program visit provides an improved chance of getting into the program of your choice when you request enrollment in February.
From September 14-October 26, students have the opportunity to visit KCTC (joining our 3rd session students traveling to and from the visit)
Tours take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-2:15 p.m.
Students interested in attending a tour, need to fill out the KCTC Tour Request form. Mrs. Johnson in Academic Services will assign you the next available tour. You will receive confirmation letter with the details of the visit that will need a parent's signature (to attend the visit), and teacher's signatures (to approve your absence). You will be marked as field trip for the hours you are attending the tour.
Students will take the KCTC bus at 11:10 a.m. from the Y (please take A lunch) and arrive back at school at 2:50 p.m. You will need a ride home.
KCTC Open House
Save the Date for KCTC Open Houses
February 7 and 8 from 5-7 p.m.
KCTC are hosting their annual open house!
Come see what KCTC all about. Check out the programs, visit the labs, talk to current students and staff.
KCTC has everything from Automotive and Aviation, to Graphic Communications and Digital Animation, Agriscience and Hospitality (sometimes farm-to-table), and more. KCTC students earn high school credit, college credit, and professional certifications, and often all 3!
Time is limited, we advise to visit the KCTC website to see our list of the programs, decide which you're most interested in and visit those first! Then, grab a stellar treats (made by the Hospitality students) and tour some other areas.
KCTC Enrollment Information (Feb-March)
The enrollment request window is held mid-February to March 17.
In early February, our counseling office will send an information email, along with hosting meetings during lunches about how to enroll at KCTC.
Enrollment forms will be available on our school website and in the information email. We will also include the dates in our weekly newsletter.
PSAT/NMSQT Test on October 26
On October 26, all Juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT test to prepare for the upcoming change to digital testing in the spring.
Content on the PSAT/NMSQT is very similar to the SAT, with Reading and Writing and Math sections.
To prepare, full-length adaptive digital PSAT/NMSQT practice is available on the Bluebook™ app. More resources are available at the Official Digital SAT Prep on Khan Academy.
Learn more about the PSAT/NMSQT by visiting the CollegeBoard website.
Juniors Under the age of 18- Testing Consent Needed
Juniors who are under the age of eighteen and are participating in one of the Michigan SAT Suite of Assessments on a school day (SAT® with Essay, PSAT/NMSQT®, or PSAT™10) need parental consent to provide College Board with optional student information, opt into the BigFuture School™ mobile application, and opt into Connections.
BigFuture School allows students to receive their test scores on their mobile devices. Connections allow students to interact with colleges and universities to support planning for postsecondary success; through Connections, students can connect with colleges, universities, scholarship organizations, and other educational organizations without disclosing their personal information.
