BLACK HISTORY FACT OF THE DAY~ SERIES WRAP UP
St Michaels Middle High coordinated the "Black History Fact of the Day" video series. Students, TCPS staff, and community members are presenting local and national black history facts each day of February. SMMHS is sharing the videos on their social media channels. Below is the link to the final video of the series. Be sure to view the playlist. It is powerful to see our community come together to educate and celebrate black history.
Shout out to St. Michaels Middle-High Assistant Principal John Strickland for coordinating the program.
FEBRUARY IS CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION MONTH
Culinary Arts
The Culinary Arts Program is hosted at EHS and offered to students at EHS and SMMHS. Mr. Joseph Candel and Mrs. Linda Brown are the instructors who both have a wide range of experience. Mr. Candel has over 21 years of experience in the culinary industry and has been an instructor at EHS since 2004. He has an Associate Degree in applied science in professional baking and cooking, a Bachelor of Science in Career and Technical Education and a Master of Education in Differentiated Instruction. Mrs. Brown has been teaching in TCPS for 45 years! She has a Master of Secondary Education and was both a former TCPS Teacher of the Year as well as a Maryland Family and Consumer Science Teacher of the year in 2011.
The Culinary Arts program partners with the American Culinary Federation (ACF) to prepare students for successful careers in the food and beverage industry. This is a 4-credit CTE program that educates high school students in professional cooking and baking. Students progress through a program that includes hands-on education in food production, while developing professionalism and proficiency in cooking, baking, cost control, nutrition, sanitation, food marketing, and dining room service. Students have the opportunity to operate an in-school restaurant, The Garden Bowl. Successful students may obtain Junior Culinarian Certification through the American Culinary Federation assessment as well as college credits through Stratford University, Chesapeake College and Anne Arundel Community College.
