News from Sundling Junior High
December 22, 2023
Letter from the Principal
I hope this communication finds you well as we wrap up the month of December and the 2023 portion of our school year. It is hard to believe, but our students have completed the 2nd quarter of school, on Friday, December 22nd. Starting on Saturday, December 23rd, students will be on an extended two week winter break, with school resuming again on Monday, January 8th. Be on the lookout, 2nd Quarter Progress Reports will be made available for students and parents on the afternoon of Friday, January 12th.
Thank you to the amazing Sundling staff, students and community for working together to fill 2+ boxes with new toys for the Palatine 2023 Toys for Tots campaign. Absolutely amazing, and speaks volumes about the care within our community.
As we wrap up Quarter 2, parents and students should check Infinite Campus for any missing assignments or work that needs to be completed. Teachers may still be accepting missing or late work over the winter break, if completed and submitted. As we begin Quarter 3, it is a great time to review progress and reset your goals for the second half of the school year.
As a note, when students return to classes in January, we will be participating in a school wide reboot of school expectations and procedures. This will support students as they start a new quarter!
Thank you for your continued support of our staff and students! It has been a great first half of the school year, and I look forward to the work ahead in 2024. I hope that you have a safe and enjoyable winter break with your family and friends. See you next year.

Message from the Library: Mrs. Lillquist
While our school may be closed for Winter Break, an enormous library of books is just a few clicks away. Thanks to continued collaboration and support from the Palatine Public Library, all District 15 students have access to Sora Digital & Audio Books. Please visit the Department of Teaching, Learning and Assessment's Sora page to view helpful tutorials for getting started and navigating this phenomenal resource. Students, don't forget to look for the Sora shortcut on your Clever page!
Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures- Reminder
Parents who transport their students to school are asked to enter the traffic circle on the south side of the school or use the parking spots located along Smith St. directly in front of the building. Please be sure to drop off your child at curbside, ensuring that they do not have to cross through moving cars. For safety reasons, the north lot in front of the school is reserved for bus loading and unloading, bike riders and parking for staff and visitors!
Students may not enter the building prior to the 7:35 AM bell unless they are participating in jazz band or choral rehearsals, working in the Learning Resource Center (LRC), attending breakfast, have a prior written pass from a teacher, or are directed to do so by a staff member due to inclement weather. Students may not wander or loiter the hallways prior to the beginning of the school day.

GoGuardian Parent
We have enabled GoGuardian Parent, which is an app that gives parents and guardians the opportunity to monitor their children's browsing activity, as well as take control over school-issued devices during out-of-school hours.
In the spirit of transparency and a shared vision of safety for all students, GoGuardian would like to notify you of the new app for parents/guardians.
Providing parents with additional insight will spur a greater sense of accountability with students and nurture continued responsible browsing habits at school and at home by:
Providing a bird's eye view of students' browsing habits
Providing controls during out-of-school hours
Facilitating a collaborative role with school educators based on a student's best academic interest.
Encouraging parents to engage with their children's online activity.
Creating a path for open and honest conversation around topics that occur in a child's browsing behavior.
What are we giving guardians access to:
Top 5 summary of student browsing - apps, extensions, documents, and websites visited
30-day view of websites, videos, documents, apps, and extensions
Ability to block websites on school-issued devices during out-of-school hours
Ability to pause internet access on school-issued devices during out-of-school hours, either on-demand or at a scheduled time
These features are turned off on the parent app: Teacher interventions - showing how often teachers locked screens, blocked sites, and opened and closed browser tabs on their students' classroom devices
This is the information that has been sent out in the D15 Family Newsletter.
Please review the parent document to see images for the 4 screens of information that the parents will have access to regarding their students’ online activity. If you have any further questions, please reach out to your Instructional Technology point person via email, help desk, or stop by to visit u
