Manitou Springs High School
Mustang News - August 25th, 2023
From The Principal
We enjoyed an awesome first full week with students! It was powerful to see students delving into content in collaboration with each other and with staff. We culminated the week with a Class Color spirit day today and had a fantastic Back to School Assembly this afternoon. We have also had the joy of hosting some of our first home events for fall sports season this week and are looking forward to cheering on Football vs Valley tonight at 7 pm. Go Mustangs! Enjoy your weekend! Anna Conrad Manitou Springs High School Principal

NEW - MSSD14 Excused Absence Policy
Important Update for the Year
Dear Families and Students,
The staff in Manitou Springs School District are excited to welcome you to a new school year filled with opportunities to learn and engage!
In the spring of 2023, the Manitou Springs Board of Education passed a new policy regarding excused absences. This policy will change how the district honors parental excusals.
We know that students who attend school do better academically and emotionally, and we will continue to support you in your student’s success. We also want to support our staff in reducing the load that chronic absences add to their plates. Please see your student’s handbook for further information.
Getting into the habit of daily attendance is more important than ever. It helps to:
- Reduce stress!
- Make it easier to connect with friends and teachers.
- Support learning.
Reaching you for support in attendance is more important than ever. It helps to:
- Make sure to call every time your child is absent or tardy.
- Please be sure we have your correct: address, phone number and email.
We are working to make our school environment a place where everyone can be safe, healthy, and learning. We will do our best to listen and partner with you so that our children have a successful year. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Kolleen Johnson

Free Meals for Students, Plus Important Reminders for Families
We are excited to share that all students will receive free [breakfast and/or lunch] starting in 2023-24 through the Healthy School Meals for All program! This new statewide program, approved by Colorado voters, is helping Colorado children and teens have access to nutritious food at our school. See this flier to learn more.
Even though [breakfast and/or lunch] will be provided for free, we need families to continue sharing household income information through [form] in order for our school to receive full access to federal funding. These additional funds will go directly back to [school] to help cover the cost of meals, and will also support after school activities and other nutritional programs. Plus, families who qualify may receive discounted school fees, class materials, bus passes, utilities support and more! As always, all household income information will be kept confidential and protected by law. Immigration, migrant, citizenship or refugee status is not required when completing the form.
Be sure to fill out the [form] as part of your back-to-school registration! If you have questions or would like additional support, please reach out to [school nutrition department/best contact] for more information.

This club is not just excluded to athletes! We welcome any and all who feel a connection to who we are and what we do.
Who We Are: We are a community working to see the world transformed by Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.
Why We Do It: Our hope is to see every coach and athletes enter into a growing relationship with Jesus and the Church. We desire to grow leaders in our community to help others pursue the Love of God.
What We Do: We seek to make leader through engagement, equipping and empowering coaches and athletes to grow and lead others to do the same.
Discover Something GREATER. As a competitor, your worth and identity can be found in something more than your sport.
