Band Performance at the Weybridge Concert
Dear Families,
It has been yet another eventful week. Monday evening our chorus and band joined with other ACSD rural schools in concert at the Salisbury Community School under Sarah Metcalf’s direction. They did a beautiful job in the rehearsals and concert. Wednesday afternoon, our chorus and band performed the same program in a mini-concert for Weybridge parents, other guests, staff and students. The growth that the students have made since fall is quite remarkable. We are so fortunate to have Sarah as our music teacher.
Tuesday, Wendy Baker, the new superintendent, visited the school. After a tour of the building, Wendy, Jamie McCallum, Heather Crowley (ACSD Admin Assistant), Megan, and I had lunch together. We had a far ranging conversation. It was my first opportunity to talk with Wendy and I came away very excited about the prospect of working with her. She is looking forward to visiting Weybridge several times this spring and meeting community members.
Wednesday was the day we exchanged our Surprise Valentines. I wish you could all have witnessed those exchanges - excitement, pride, shyness, affection. The bulletin board was resplendent and the sense of caring throughout the school was palpable.
Family Game Night - This turned out to be such a fun event: thank you to Erin Davis for pulling it together and all the parents/grandparents who joined in the games with the children. The intergenerational play was key to the success of the evening. It was lovely to watch the interactions.
FOWE meeting - We had an excellent FOWE meeting Tuesday evening, including a rich discussion about the progress reports and conferences, information about the VT Comprehensive Assessment that Grade 3-5 will be doing in April, the visit with Wendy Watson, and legislative action. Thanks for all your thinking, questions and ideas.
Families Together- Please see the linked flyer for the revised series. There will be four sessions, 5:30-7:00. While it would be ideal for folks to come to all of them, Mrs. Hayyat, our school counselor, has designed the sessions so that each parent training can stand alone. (There is no training component for the children.) Dinner and childcare will be provided. Please contact Samantha if you plan to attend a session.
Dates and topics:
February 29th - Parenting Without Shame: We Are All Trying Our Best
March 14th - Child Development: Are We Expecting Too Much?

Lunch volunteers - We had full coverage this week! We need coverage the week after vacation for Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. (March is blank so far.) Please email me cjohnston@acsdvt.org if you can help any of these days with lunch prep and service, 11:00-12:00. Even one day helps. Those of you who have volunteered before, can go into the google doc and sign up. Thank you!
Skating - The ice conditions at this time are not good. Stay tuned.
Have a wonderful vacation!
Best, Christina

District News on Equity and Justice
This year, ACSD is partnering with Dr. Rebecca Eunmi Haslam of Seed the Way LLC to advance our commitment to equity and justice. Dr. Haslam’s focus is on understanding the impact of racial and bias-based harm in our schools. Her work is designed to inform ACSD’s policy and procedures, increase more inclusive classroom practices, and leverage decision-making in meaningful ways. We hope this work will increase the restorative and reparative experiences for students, staff, and faculty in the ACSD community.
Dr. Haslam has completed the first phase of her work at MUMS and MUHS which included meeting with students and staff directly. She is now set to begin phase two which will focus on students and staff in ACSD’s elementary schools. The complete announcement and plan for phase two will be shared with all ACSD K-5 families in March, with a phase two completion date of June 30th. Please be on the lookout for the invitation to participate in this work.
Upon completion of both phases, Dr. Haslam will share findings with incoming Superintendent Dr. Wendy Baker in preparation for ACSD’s implementation of the ACSD Strategic Plan for Equity.
Ilsley Library Challenge
Ilsley Public Library is challenging the youth in our ACSD community to read 15 titles from the various local and state youth book award lists (Red Clover, Golden Dome, Midd Reads, and Green Mountain) between January 1st and March 31st. Tracking sheets will be sent home today. Youth who read 15 books will earn a ticket to a special movie showing at the Marquis Theater in April! (Weybridge will make sure everyone who qualifies has transportation to the event.)
