A message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
I loved the opportunity to have so many of our families back on campus for our annual Vocabulary Parade. We saw such creativity in all of the vocabulary focused costumes that matched each grade level’s theme so well.
Check out just a few of the pictures below from the event.
Follow us on Twitter @LPEPanthers to see even more of the event.
Welcome to our new School Advisory Council (SAC) Member:
Elena Curtsinger, Parent
Meetings are open to all LPE families. Our next meeting will be on November 15th at 4:30PM in the Media Center.
Report Cards were published and sent home by Tuesday, October 25th. Please take time to review this with your child, as they are an active part of their own learning. At any time, you can reach out to your child’s teacher to set up a conference or have any questions answered.
We have a virtual learning day on November 1st. Attendance on these days is calculated based on evidence of your child’s participation with the work assigned by there teachers.
Students receive an unexcused absence code when this attempt is not made. Always reach out to the teacher with questions or needs rather than been issued an unexcused absence for not attempting an assignment.
Our SWFL community was greatly impacted by Hurricane Ian. It has been unbelievable to see our students and LPE community step up to help one another during this difficult time. Thank you to everyone who has generously supported our LPE families and for all that you continue to do. We know that it will be a process to rebuild, but we are proud to be able to support our families and their efforts to do so.
Mr. Merrill’s first grade class found their own way to give back to the community by recognizing the efforts of our local news and media outlets, many who were also personally impacted by Ian.
Click the link below to see the story covered by Fox4 as well as the original video created by the class. It was amazing to see the positive impact our LPE students had not only in our community by across the US as project when viral.

World Kindness Day
World Kindness Day was introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement and celebrated on November 13 of each year. World Kindness Day provides an opportunity to spread kindness with small gestures and promotes compassion for others. And there are benefits to being kind. Did you know that kindness is contagious? Researchers have found that when people see someone else being kind, they are more likely to act kindly towards others themselves. It also pays to be kind. People who are constantly kind produce 23% less cortisol (stress hormone). Because of the lower levels of stress, people who practice kindness age slower than the average population.
Teachers can consider celebrating World Kindness Day on Monday, November 14th through the following classroom activities:
- Read a story about kindness
- Award “Caught You Being Kind” coupons/certificates
- Make Kindness Cards
- Share compliments
- Fill a Kindness Jar
- Paint Kindness Rocks

Curriculum & Instruction
Dear Parents,
Students become better readers by practicing reading. Reading at home has a huge impact on their reading success at school. Many parents often ask how they can support what teachers are doing at school. See below for some ideas.

Fall into Art!
This fall in the art room Kindergarten has been mixing primary colors to paint pumpkin landscapes. First grade has been learning about architecture and drawing houses. Second grade learned about the art & culture of Dia de Los Muertos using neon colors and glow paint! Fourth & Fifth grade are using their creative drawing skills to inspire others to protect the endangered FL panther. Meanwhile, third grade glazed their nature inspired ceramic plaques.
The fun will continue in November with gratitude inspired projects. We will be covering the element of art Value. How to makes colors lighter or darker in various mediums.
I hope your family is safe after Hurricane Ian.

Music Notes ...with Mr. Stein
It’s hard to believe that we are already beginning the month of November! It has been an enjoyable start to the year and our students are doing very well in music class. Each grade level has been learning different musical ideas and forming concepts how to apply and perform them.
On November 11th, Lake Park Elementary School will be having a Veterans Day ceremony in our courtyard. We have talked about this in each class and why it is important and significant in our history. All of our students will be singing two songs together and our 5th grade students will be singing two special songs as part of the program honoring those who have served as part of the armed forces.
Later this month we will begin piano instruction at Lake Park. Last year we received a generous grant from the “Champions for Learning” foundation. We were able to provide each student an electric keyboard to play in class each day. Our study of the piano will again be for all grade levels. This is a marvelous opportunity for each child to have an experience that can last a lifetime. Each class will consist of both our regular musical experiences and playing the piano.
November looks like it will be a great month for music at Lake Park Elementary School. Be sure to ask your children “what’s happening in music”.
