Children's Lunchbox is Coming to Rogers Park
Feeding Hungry Families through the pantry pack program
It began as an urgent need when schools closed as a result of COVID-19, but even now The Children’s Lunchbox is distributing or partnering with other agencies to distribute pantry boxes to food-insecure children and families. Families who are making difficult decisions between paying bills and purchasing groceries, families awaiting SNAP benefits, families who are uncertain of where their next meal will come from.
Each pantry box provides a breakfast, lunch or dinner meal for a family of four and will be available to students twice a month, here at school. Bags will be delivered to teachers and given to students on distribution days. If your family is interested in receiving this service, please contact Nurse T @ 907-742-4800 to enroll. We have the opportunity to increase the frequency of deliveries, up to a weekly basis, if there is enough interest. We are very excited to be ablento provide this service to our community!

UAA STEM Day
The University of Alaska Anchorage is excited to share that UAA STEM Day is right around the corner. This is a high energy event with loads of activities and demonstrations related to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) that are perfect for students in elementary and middle school. Plus, for students who love the thrill of competition, there’s the bonus challenge of filling up their UAA STEM Day activity passport with stamps from every booth. (The activity passport might also serve as proof for an extra credit assignment!)
UAA STEM Day will be held on Saturday, November 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the ConocoPhillips Integrated Science Building (3101 Science Cir). This is a FREE family event that is open to the public.
UAA students, staff, faculty, and several community organizations will be hosting dozens of booths and tour stops, each with their own STEM-themed activity or demonstration. This is a great opportunity to explore UAA's campus, meet STEM students and professionals, and inspire your students to consider pursuing a career in STEM.
There will be plenty of learning opportunities related to engineering, health sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, astronomy, and so much more!
As the date approaches, you will be able to find more details about UAA STEM Day on our website.
MEDIATORS ARE ACTIVE AT RECESS
Mediators have been trained and a schedule is developed for them to be working to diffuse issues and disagreements at recesses. Our team took two days to train the 4th - 6th grade students in solving conflicts through mediative steps. This effort is lead by our school counselor, Mrs. Streubel, and is supported school-wide. The active participation of students in solving peer relations is valuable and meaningful. We are proud of our Rogers Park School Mediators!
BUS SAFETY
It is a team effort in ensuring bus safety. Please remind your child to stay seated, use an indoor voice, and keep their hands to themselves. Riding the bus to and from school is a privilege. Please help support bus safety by talking with your children at home about bus safety expectations.
WINTER GEAR
Winter is approaching soon. Please be sure to send students with snow gear. We want all students to be safe and comfortable in the cold weather. We do have outdoor clothing available to give to kids at school. Please let the front office or your child's teacher know if you need something from our school closet.

No School November 10th
Late Start Mondays: Students Who Arrive Early
Early arrivals are asked to be dropped off at the front door. Students will sign in at the front office and then they are directed to a learning lab where they will be able to read silently, or complete missing classwork. Staff will monitor students until 9:35 when students are released for breakfast or sent to the playground. Please do not drop students to the playground before 9:35 as adult supervision does not begin until then. Walking students are asked to adjust their arrival time to 9:35, if possible.
Note from PE
Hello RP Families,
Its's getting colder which means it is getting closer to ice skating time. Every year we lend out skates for students to use. You can expect an email with a permission slip when the ice rink is ready. When it comes time to pass out skates, we put them in reusable bags so students can safely carry them. If you have any reusables that you would like to donate for skates, our PE team would gladly put them to go use.
Thank you

Library Updates
Thank you to all the families who came to support our Book Fair. All proceeds from the Book Fair go back to the library. Students will work with Mrs. Levine to select new titles to add to our collection. Thank you to Suzy Soden, Denise Flake, Carly Flake, Jordan Flake, Michael Levine, Lachlan Gerrety for helping with the break-down of the fair. With the support of volunteers and the Rogers Park PTA, our Book Fair was a great success!
Reminders for the Drop Off & Pick Up Loop:
- Please only pick students up from the curbside pick up lane. It is extremely dangerous to have students crossing multiple lanes of traffic.
- Please be mindful of your speed as you travel through the pick up lane. Our young running wolves are out and about and we want to be sure they get to their destination safely.
- Students in grades K-3 should not be crossing the crosswalk to the parking lot without an adult. Please accompany your child across the crosswalk when coming to pick them up.
- Thank you for minding the traffic flow of our pick up loop. Please refer to the picture above to review our pick up traffic flow.
- Parents/Guardians who are crossing should cross at either of the two crosswalks. Please do not cut across the moving traffic.
- Please do not park on the cross walk.
- Please do not walk or drive into the bus loop.
- Buses may be late and need to have the driveway clear for a safe student pick-up and departure.
Thank you for making everyone's safety a priority. Teamwork makes the difference.
