THE TIGER STRIPES

December is here!
Dear Families and Community,
Winter break is only two weeks away. As 2023 comes to a close, I want to sincerely thank you for welcoming me so fully to Terra Linda and for your active and loving participation in the lives of our school community. Whether you are volunteering in the building, an active member of the PTC, attending a school event or reading with your children at home, each of you is a vital and important partner to us as an organization. Thank you!
Students’ last day of school before break is December 15th, and we have decided to have a Spirit Week in the lead-up to it. As always, participation is optional.
Monday: Favorite Shirt Day - Whether it’s a favorite soft sweatshirt, the sports jersey for your favorite team or a fancy shirt with sequins, we invite you to wear it if you like it best!
Tuesday: What’s That Thing On Your Head? - Is it a hat? Is it a special or unique hairstyle? You decide!
Wednesday: Dress Your Best - We can’t wait to see you all dressed up!
Thursday: Mix it up/Clash Day - This is your opportunity to wear anything you want mismatched or backwards.
Friday: Cozy Day - The day before break is the perfect opportunity to dress in pajamas or comfortable clothes. And feel free to bring a stuffy or cozy item too!
Winter break is December 18, 2022-January 1, 2023. Kids return to class on January 2, 2023. We look forward to celebrating the new year with you!
As always, please reach out if you have any questions or joys to share!
My best,
Wendy
Reminder: No School Friday, December 8th! This is a Staff Development Day.
For the safety of our children!
Please, during drop-off and pick-up:
Observe all stop signs.
Please remember that the speed limit on campus is 10 miles per hour.
Drop students off at the yellow line only. (If you let them out sooner, it is a safety issue and interferes with the flow.)
If you require Terra Linda staff assistance with your student, please pull all the way up past the yellow line.
Terra Linda's New Food and Hygiene Pantry
Thanks to our community's generous support of our food and hygiene drive last month, we have been able to collect remaining items and create Terra Linda's first Food and Hygiene pantry.
We hope to sustain this pantry throughout the year for Terra Linda families.
We will gladly accept food and hygiene donations to support our families throughout the year. If you have items you would like to donate, please send them to school with your students or drop them off in the office.
Any families who would like to "shop" in our pantry, please call or stop by the office.
Once again, thank you for your continued support and generosity!
3rd Grade Salmon Project
Each third grade teacher received 200 Chinook salmon eggs from the hatchery in October. Students have had the opportunity to watch them hatch and turn into alevin. Soon they will be able to release tiny fry into the Tualatin River at their December field trip the week before winter break! Not only have students had the opportunity to learn about the life cycle of salmon, they've also had a presentation from Clean Water Services and learned the importance of keeping streams and rivers clean and about their important role as stewards of our regional water systems.
Special thanks to Megan Craft and Zhalih Taefy-Cross for taking on this extra project so our students can have this fantastic learning experience!

Behavioral Health & Wellness Team Partners with Beaverton Education Foundation
We have an exciting opportunity right now to create a better learning environment for all our students, especially those with greater sensitivity to light and sound. We want to provide light covers for classrooms and have a set of noise-reducing headphones to any student who needs them. We're partnering with Beaverton Education Foundation to raise money for these items and the first $500 in donations will be DOUBLED with a match from BEF.
Please join us in supporting our Terra Linda Tigers to provide a more calming atmosphere and create a better learning environment for all. Thank you!

Option Schools Applications
Applications now open for 2024-2025 Option Schools. Applications for the 2024-2025 school year are now available online. Students must reside within the Beaverton School District boundary or currently attend a Beaverton School on an approved Inter-District Transfer in order to apply to an Option school.
Students may only select one Option school on their application. They should give careful consideration to their choice of school. Once an application has been submitted, no changes will be allowed. We strongly encourage online applications.
Applications must be received online or in the Learning Options office no later than Friday, December 8 at 3:00 p.m. PST.
Current 5th-7th grade students and families who are unfamiliar with the Options Application process are invited to attend an Option Fair. The Option Fair will include a presentation on the application process and the opportunity to visit tables hosted by each Option School.
Current 5th-11th grade students and families who are interested in specific Option Schools are encouraged to attend one or more Open Houses hosted at each Option School. Visit the Learning Options webpage for more information and applications, as well as a complete list of Option Fairs and Open Houses.
