Dear Ashburnham residents and parents of future John R. Briggs students:

Children who turn five years old by August 31, 2021 are eligible to register for kindergarten. Registration is now in process. We encourage you to complete this process as soon as possible. Enrollment packets can be picked up in the school front entryway, or found online at www.awrsd.org/jrb. Please call the school at 978- 827-5750 or email Paula Kuehl at pstlaurentkuehl@awrsd.org if you have any questions, or if your child will not be enrolling.

We were lucky enough to have recently hosted Nature's Classroom on Wheels for two days last week. The 5th Grade students were able to experience many of the activities that take place each year in Freedom, NH right here on our own campus. While it was not the exact experience of many previous years, we were happy to offer something to this very special group of 5th graders.

Thankfully we are able to enjoy some warmer weather. It is great that the children are able to get outside more and play. Just a reminder to check yourself, your children and your pets for ticks at least once a day or anytime you have been outdoors. Try to wear long pants and long sleeves when you plan to be out in the woods. Using EPA- approved repellents can be helpful to prevent tick and mosquito bites. If you do find a tick, carefully remove as soon as possible using fine-tipped tweezers. If you notice a rash or feel like you have the “flu”, contact your doctor.

Final Reminder to all parents/guardians of CURRENT 3rd Graders: If your child has had a physical in 2020 please have a copy forwarded to the health office if you have not already done so. If your child is in need of a physical, please make an appointment with their Primary Care Provider soon. If you need a form, please call the school nurse and one will be sent home. Physicals can always be faxed to the health office at 978-827-5699. Thanks for your prompt attention!

Parents/Guardians of 2nd Graders: Letters were sent home this week stating that a current physical (2021) is needed for entry into 3rd grade in the fall. If you have any questions, please call me at 978-827-5750 X5.

We are set to host an OUTDOOR Chorus Concert on the front field on Wednesday, June 9th at 6:30 pm with a rain date of Thursday, June 10th. The field opens at 6 pm and the entire program should take about 20 minutes.

As has been the case all year, we are asking that students bring a water bottle to school each day since the water bubblers are not in service this school year. We have had some warm days already, and only anticipate more of them, so bring that water in!

We continue to complete Pooled Testing each week to provide as much information to families as possible. If you still wish to enroll your child, you can follow the link below.

The PTA will be holding its annual elections at our next meeting on Wednesday, June 9th. All positions are one-year terms so we have spots available for all positions - President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. At least one or two of these positions are currently unopposed. If you are or know anyone that is, interested please let us know by emailing us at jrb.pta@gmail.com.

As we come to a close of the school year we wanted to thank everyone for their help in making this year as much of a success as it could be! It wasn't what anyone wanted, but we did the best we could with it. We hope that next year we will be able to return to our in-person events that the kids love so much. We hope you all have amazing summers and look forward to seeing you all next school year!
