CDL - Student Option In Request
2020-21 30-Day Notice for Statewide Tests
Under the Student Assessment Bill of Rights, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) and Oregon’s school districts must provide families with a Notice of Statewide Tests and Opt-out Form 30 days before the start of statewide testing.
This year, school has been significantly disrupted by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and other factors. In response, ODE plans to ask the United States Department of Education for a temporary pause (also known as a “waiver”) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math testing. A pause is also being requested for science testing, but science testing is not subject to this opt-out rule.
- If this waiver request is approved, then statewide ELA and Math testing will not happen this year, and there will be no need for parents to submit opt-out forms to their child’s school.
- If the waiver request is not approved, test windows will open on March 4, 2021.
ODE will update the district regularly with news about the waiver.
BSD Student Surveys
The student survey window for students in grades 4, 5, 7, and 9-12 is March 30 – June 4. Plan to notify parents of the student survey preview and opt out at least two weeks prior to making the survey available to students.
Previews of the survey in English and Spanish are posted on the District’s Research and Reports webpage. Here are the sample parent messages for school newsletters: elementary middle high.
5th Grade begins looking to next year!
Thank you so much for welcoming me into your classroom last week. Our 5th graders are so fortunate to have such dynamic, kind, and resourceful teachers facilitating learning in our CDL world. I hope that we can create as strong a sense of community at Tumwater that I have observed in each of your classes.
I have sent this 6th Grade Forecasting Newsletter to all students registered to attend Tumwater next year and their parents/guardians. For quick reference, here are some of the forms and resources linked in the newsletter:
- 5th Grade Forecasting Slide Deck
- 5th Grade Family Night recording
- Forecasting Form
- Student Advisory Team Application
- AVID Application
- Survey on school colors & mascot
I'm encouraging students to complete the forecasting form by Friday, March 12th, but it will be open until Friday, March 19th. I'll begin reaching out to families who haven't submitted a form yet the week of the 15th.
If you have families that didn't receive the letter, but intend to attend Tumwater, please have them email the school secretary at anne_arce-irwin@beaverton.k12.or.us . She is handling registration until we are fully staffed next fall.
Again, I am very grateful for your flexibility is scheduling the forecasting meetings and your support for students as they transition to middle school.
Warmly,|
Jill O'Neill
