4th grade students had the opportunity to attend an Iowa State women’s basketball game to watch our student teacher, Ms. Joens play. They did such a great job and were great representatives of our school and the Boone community. We’re very proud of them! Here are a few pictures!
Big thanks to our Boone Rotary Club! They donated an atlas to each of our 3rd grade students! We appreciate the community partnership we have with them!
Dyslexia Awareness Month
October was Dyslexia Awareness Month. On October 27 and 28, our Title 1 instructors (L to R) Angie Zimmerman, Stacy Kraft, Tony Cosentino, and Amy Goodpaster attended the Decoding Dyslexia conference in Ankeny. The Title 1 team learned about Dyslexia, which affects 1 in 5 people, or 20%. Students with Dyslexia can struggle with reading and writing among other things. Title 1 teachers also attended keynote and break out sessions on strategies to help struggling readers. These strategies can benefit ALL learners in the classroom and at home.
This month our little Toreadors are working to be self control sharks! Did you know that sharks always have to be moving? That takes self control!

Meet EDGE Intern Ryan Franzenberg! Ryan has been involved in EDGE since this summer when he was hired on as one of the summer interns with Lane Trailers. Ryan has always had a passion for diesel mechanics and has set himself up nicely for a career path in this field taking DMACC Intro to Auto Tech I and II his junior year. This year, he is working and learning from David Shank at Central Iowa Truck Repair. Ryan is one of our EDGE/EXCEL students and has reminded us all that EDGE stands for Empowered Desire. Guided Experience. He is living that path right now and reminding us all that students set their path and we are there to guide them. Ryan could go anywhere in the world he wants to after high school. He has the complete package of work ethic, maturity, intelligence and the a lot of self-awareness of what he wants and how to get there. It really is inspiring. Ryan will do BIG things in his future and we really enjoying having him as a student.
One of our lead authentic learning teams comes from the middle school with Lisa Green, Wendy Swanson, and Gabrielle Patterson. They have teamed up with a group of students interested in inclusion. In this group, middle school students have CHOSEN to brainstorm ways to raise money to bring inclusive play equipment for all students to the middle school. Through this project, a select group of high school mentors are supporting their work. During club day, students are getting to know each other as they begin this work in the coming year. Be on the lookout for their efforts!
