Why we celebrate Black History Month?
It was created to focus attention on the contributions of African Americans from all periods of U.S. history.
Why February?
It is commonly said that Carter G Woodson chose this month because it includes the birthdays of two people, Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglas, who each played an important role in shaping black history.
The Lunar New Year will begin on February 10
The Year of the Dragon in 2024 is associated with the element of Wood. The combination of the animal sign (Dragon) and the element (Wood) designates the year as the Year of the Wood Dragon.
What does the wood represent?
Wood represents vitality and creativity, while the dragon is related to success, intelligence and honor in Chinese culture.

Value Grid inspired by Taylor Gordon Celebrating Black History Month
After learning about the Contemporary paintings of 17-year old artist Tyler Gordon, students will explore a key art element used in Tyler’s black, white and grey artwork - Value. During their specials class on Friday, February 9th, students will create a value grid using three colors to explore value scale or shading colors. At age 10, Tyler Gordon found a voice in art and has since painted some of the most celebrated people of our time.

TTSD Talented And Gifted Education Community Meeting/Educación para Talentosos y Dotados (TAG) de TTSD Reunión para la comunidad
TTSD TAG parents and guardians are invited to a community meeting originally planned for January 23 but will now be held March 12 from 6-7PM via Zoom. TAG specialists and administrators look forward to sharing information regarding how students are served who have qualified for Talented and Gifted Services in TTSD, profiles of giftedness, and information regarding the social and emotional needs of TAG students. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of our presentation. This meeting will be recorded and will be posted on our TTSD TAG website for future viewing.

Hello Parents/Families,
Would you like to teach an after school club at Bridgeport Elementary this Spring? Do you have a skill or past time you would like to share with students in an after school club setting? Clubs will begin April 29th on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 pm-3:45 pm for six weeks. Your student will be able to enroll into a club of your choosing if you volunteer to run a club. If this sounds like something you would like to do please email Sue Wilcock our After School Club Coordinator for more details swilcock@ttsd.k12.or.us by February 28th, 2024
