THANK YOU TO SCHIP'S TREASURE RESALE SHOP
We are happy to announce that HCS received a SCHIP grant to support student needs. The funds are managed by the HCS Howard Center clinicians. This award was funded by SCHIP's Treasure Resale Shop which turns life's discards into hope for organizations within our community. We are so grateful!

FREE RAINBOW ARTS PROGRAM - K/1
Art + Math Program is the inaugural Rainbow Arts Program supported by the Olivia & Leslie Rainbow Foundation for Kindergarten and 1st Grade students in Princeton, NJ and Hinesburg, VT. The program is centered on the belief that high-quality arts education helps spark imagination and creativity, which in turn fosters creative and socially engaged students who will grow up to be our next leaders, teachers, artists, and engineers. The initial curriculum has been developed and vetted by leading arts educators and will continually evolve based on program analysis and impact tracking.
The Olivia and Leslie Rainbow Foundation was founded by Chris Kuenne to memorialize his daughter, Olivia and late wife, Leslie. Olivia and Leslie taught all those around them the creative power of art to inspire, teach, and invoke our deepest humanity. The Foundation is committed to funding STEAM initiatives that ignite the imagination of young children, providing a safe space to express themselves, teaching them critical thinking & cognitive skills while developing their social-emotional core. The Foundation has partnered with Maker Prep, an organization devoted to supporting Pre-K – 12 schools and community-based organizations by bringing art and technology
education to all. For more information: https://www.oliviaandlesliefoundation.org/
PLEASE NOTE: All graduating Grade 8 students will be given a complimentary yearbook!
JASON CHIN TO VISIT HCS!
Science teachers across the district have been looking for ways to integrate science into reading and writing classes while also creating a shared experience for our PreK-8 students. On February 16, HCS will be welcoming Jason Chin to share his experiences and insights into writing and illustrating children’s books. Jason Chin, a local author and illustrator is a diverse author and a Caldecott Medal winner who has written and illustrated a series of children’s books, including many on non-fiction science topics.
“I love meeting readers and sharing what I love, and I hope that my visits will help young readers see themselves as artists, scientists, readers and writers.” -Jason Chin
Throughout the month of January and early February, individual classrooms will be preparing for his visit by exploring Chin’s books in a variety of ways. We are so excited for this opportunity to welcome him into our school!

CVSD PreK LOTTERY - OPEN FOR 2024-2025!
The CVSD Early Education Program is now accepting applications for a random pre-k lottery drawing for the 2024-25 school year. This lottery is for an opportunity to enroll in one of our school-based classrooms which run 10 hours per week. Our school-based prekindergarten classrooms are 5 STARs, licensed early education programs that provide play-based, developmentally appropriate environments for all children in an inclusive setting. Our curriculum is based on the Vermont Early Learning Standards (VELS).
Our programs follow the CVSD school calendar. Children who will be age 3 or older by September 1, 2024, who are not eligible for kindergarten, and live in the communities of Charlotte, Hinesburg, Shelburne, St. George, and Williston are eligible to enter the lottery. Families who are selected for the lottery and choose to enroll their child in a CVSD program access their Act 166 publicly funded prekindergarten funds for the school-based program.
All applications must be received by February 5, 2024, and are located on the CVSD Early Education website under 2024-2025 Preschool Lottery . Paper applications are available upon request.

LEARN ABOUT THE CVSD AND CONNECTING YOUTH VAPING PREVENTION CAMPAIGN
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This month, we are excited to announce our CVSD and Connecting Youth Vaping Prevention Campaign. Aligned with VT Department of Health's Prevention Week, we are launching a district-wide prevention campaign that will include programs, policies, practices and people.
We are acutely aware of the growing use of EVPs (electronic vaping products). According to the most recent Vermont Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 1 in 4 Vermont youth currently use an EVP, while 50% have ever used one.* 2019 Youth Risk Behavior Survey statistic
The gravity of this issue has required us to think more critically about our approach to enacting change. Our holistic approach including programs, policies, practices and people will not only change youth beliefs and behaviors, it will help shift the cultural narrative around EVP misuse from punitive to restorative.
With this announcement, we are revealing two video assets that will act as key tools for partners, like you, to support the campaign:
"Let's Talk About Vaping" - Informational video for educators, parents, and caregivers
"Up In Smoke" - Student video
Our intention is to announce this broad, comprehensive campaign effort by first communicating our strategy and the tools offered for success. In the coming weeks, we will package up a comprehensive digital toolkit for parents and caregivers with easy-to-access resources on how to prevent EVP misuse in our youth.
For more information on our campaign approach, check out our information sheet or contact Tony Moulton, Director or Integrated Wellness, Tmoulton@cvsdvt.org
