Opportunity for our Students/Classrooms/Staff
The City of Bonney Lake is pleased to announce a unique opportunity open to anyone in the 98391 zip code. The City of Bonney Lake Park Commission is hosting an essay contest to name Midtown Park. This, first in the history of the City, opportunity is designed to deepen the connection between Midtown Park and the citizens of Bonney Lake while capitalizing on the creativity, knowledge, and insight of our City’s residents.
Each essay should be in the 5 paragraph essay format, with a maximum of 750 words, and suggest a name for the park while explaining how this name is connected to the City of Bonney Lake. Suggested names also need to meet the naming criteria found in the Bonney Lake Municipal Code 12.10.020:
- The proposed name fits a neighborhood or geographical identification (e.g., Lake Bonney);
- The proposed name fits a natural or geological feature (e.g., Fennel Creek);
- The proposed name is a Bonney Lake historical figure or of local cultural or historical significance (e.g., Naches);
- The proposed name is for a deceased individual who has made a significant contribution to the park system;
- The proposed name is for a city employee who has made extraordinary and significant contributions to the park system, and held a position with the city for at least 12 years;
- A proposed name using the name of an elected official, family members, or relatives shall only be considered under extraordinary circumstances
Applicants should submit using the online form found at this link and on the City’s website. Submissions are due by June 30, 2022 and will be reviewed by members of the Park Commission and other City staff. More information is available on our website. We look forward to reading your submittals. Please feel free to print the flyer and pass it along to anyone you think will be interested in the essay contest.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mettie Brasel at (253) 447-4350 or email at braselm@cobl.us.
