LOHS Families,

Second semester is upon us. Due to losing two days of school to inclement weather last week, we are shifting the last day of marking period 2/semester 1 to Wednesday, January 24. This does not change this week’s High School time schedule (see below). The move is to allow staff the flexibility to have another day with students to wrap up projects/exams. Your child will start their third marking period classes on Thursday, January 25, 2024.

• Monday, January 22: 1st and 2nd period exams – 7:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
• Tuesday, January 23: 3rd and 4th period exams – 7:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

• Wednesday, January 24: Traditional late start, all class periods – 9:40 a.m. to 2:35 p.m.

Please follow the schedule below for the half days on Monday and Tuesday:

• Monday, January 22: AM students attend OSTC, NO PM OSTC; this absence will be excused.
  1st and 2nd hour final exams at LOHS 7:30am-10:45am

• Tuesday, January 23: NO AM or PM OSTC.
  AM OSTC students will attend LOHS for their 3rd and 4th hour finals.
  3rd and 4th hour final exams at LOHS from 7:30am-10:45am
  
  
• Wednesday, January 24th:
  Because this will be the last day of the term, we will run both a 10:55 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. OSTC bus that day to accommodate those students who need to remain in class on Wednesday to finish exams.

January 22 - 23 - 2nd Term Exams, Students 1/2 Day

January 24 - Last day of Term 2

January 25 - First day of Term 3/ Semester 2

January 30 - Rochester University EMC - 6 p.m.

2023-24 LOHS Calendar

It is imperative that during morning drop-off that vehicles do NOT utilize or block handicap parking spots, IF your child does not require assistance.

Also, please note students will only be dismissed from school after 2:00 p.m. if there is a family emergency. Too many students regularly miss the last 20-35 minutes of their school day. We need students at school until dismissal unless it is an emergency. Exception is student athletes that are dismissed early by the Athletic Department, per Coaches.

Lake Orion Community Schools educates over 7,000 students every day. We appreciate your involvement in supporting our mission of “empowering the Dragon community to achieve excellence” and encourage you to vote on the replacement of two millage proposals in the February 27, 2024 election.

• The first proposal is a replacement of the Non-Homestead Millage, which helps fund the day-to-day operating budget of the school district. This millage was originally approved by LOCS voters in 1994.
• The second proposal is the replacement of the Sinking Fund Millage, which is used to cover necessary school safety improvements and facility repairs. This millage was first approved by LOCS voters in 2016.

Lake Orion High School understands the importance of offering our students flexibility and choice based on their learning styles. The many scheduling options we have are intended to meet the academic needs for each student while giving them flexibility within their class requirements. Lake Orion High School offers a number of Advanced Placement classes, fully virtual, and partially online coursework, as well as the ability to attend the Oakland School Technical Campus or International Academy. These diverse curricular options give students at LOHS, not only top-notch academic experiences, but an individualized opportunity to optimize their potential.
