CACFP Week is March 10-16, 2024
CACFP Week is a national educational and information campaign sponsored annually by the National CACFP Sponsors Association designed to raise awareness of how the USDA's Child and Adult Care Food Program works to combat hunger. The CACFP brings healthy foods to tables across the country for children in child care centers, homes and afterschool, as well as for adults in day care.

New! Breakfast and Snack Menu Planners
Team Nutrition released a comprehensive menu planner guide to support CACFP providers in meeting meal pattern requirements and serving high-quality breakfast meals and snacks! Planners include sample menus, activities, checklists, and kid-tested and approved recipes! Menu planners are found on SquareMeals here, available in English and Spanish!
Reminder for all TX-UNPS and WBSCM Entities
Contracting entities can now assign two User Access Managers/User Admins (UAM/UA) to manage security in TX-UNPS/WBSCM system.

CACFP LIVE: Meal Production Records Session ID 546746
This class teaches Contracting Entities (CEs) basic Meal Production Record (MPR) skills including how to fill out related forms, how to use meal documentation to support the MPR and how to use the MPR to improve forecasting, communication, organization, and to demonstrate compliance.
This is a 4 hour course beginning at 9am. We will break for lunch at 11am and return from 12:30pm-2:30pm. You must complete all 4 hours to receive credit and have your name entered into the drawing.

Child Nutrition: Forecasting the Procurement of Foods Session ID 546403
Forecasting the procurement of foods is a process that includes understanding the stakeholder’s expectations, the menu, how to estimate quantities, review inventory, write specifications, and a number of concepts.
This 4-hour session is located at Region 6 ESC and presented by the Institute of Child Nutrition. Registration for this session ends on February 2, 2024. The session will be cancelled if we do not have at least 25 participants to register. Participants will receive general concepts about the basic foundations of forecasting the procurement of foods in Child Nutrition Programs. This training does not discuss federal regulations pertaining to the procurement system. The purpose of this training is to assist stakeholders in identifying key considerations for forecasting for the procurement of foods in federally funded meal programs.

SFSP UPDATES
PY 24 Summer Mandate Deadline Approaching
The deadline for Contracting Entities (CEs) to submit the Summer Mandate Intent in TXUNPS is January 31, 2024.
CEs Not Renewing
CEs that do not wish to renew their participation must submit a written request to terminate their FND Permanent Agreement by mutual consent. If a mutual termination request is not received, for those that do not participate in a program year, they must reapply as new if they wish to resume operations in the next program year.
Important Renewal Application Deadlines:
DUE DATES:
- January 15, 2024 - Application Packets open in TX-UNPS.
- March 15, 2024 - Last day to submit Application Packets in TX-UNPS to TDA if CE is requesting advance payments. Application Packets submitted in TX-UNPS after this date will not be eligible to receive advance payments for summer 2023.
- April 15, 2024 - Last day to submit the SFSP Intake Form via squaremeals.org to initiate the potential applicant review process. Last day to submit the SFSP Application Packet in TX-UNPS for all renewing SFSP CEs that are Not in Good Standing (including CEs with a temporary deferred Serious Deficiency [SD]) for SFSP 2022, CACFP 2022 and/or CACFP 2023.
- May 1, 2024 - Last day to submit Application Packets for all other renewing CEs.
SFSP Training
All Contracting Entities (CEs) are required to complete the SFSP training prior to application submittal. If training completion cannot be verified, your application will be returned without being reviewed and you will not be eligible to operate the program until such time as the training can be verified and the renewal application is approved. At a minimum, the sponsor’s supervisory personnel responsible for the food service must complete SFSP program administration and operations training available online or at a local ESC location.
January 15: TDA will post a training video on Squaremeals that will be approximately 1 hour in length on the application and budget, followed by 1 hour of mandatory USDA topics. This training will cover the required training CEs need to attend in order to have their applications processed. More info to come.
