Health & Safety
Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools
State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.
Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.
Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.
Review and Update Emergency Information
If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.
All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.
We look forward to partnering with you to make 2021-22 a safe, fun and productive school year for all of our students and families.

Lightning Boys Hockey vs. Prior Lake, Sat. Jan. 29
The Lightning Boys lost a tough game to South Suburban rival Prior Lake 4-1 on Saturday with the power play being the pivotal difference between the teams. The boys came out hard with an early barrage on net that forced Prior Lake to take an early penalty. Unfortunately, the boys were unable to score on the power play and it was the Lakers who scored on a subsequent power play roughly halfway through the first period. The Lightning had several strong chances en route to a 12-9 shot advantage, the best occurring when Taylor Cords found himself all alone. However, Prior Lake’s goalie was strong in the first and throughout the game as the first ended with a 1-0 Laker lead.
The Lightning came out hard to start the second and gained some momentum with a Prior Lake five minute major when Ben Keefer was checked from behind about four minutes in. Unfortunately, the Lightning power play was abbreviated by a penalty against the home team. During the ensuing four on four the Lightning and Lakers traded chances and even strength goals with Nick Karam scoring on a hard low point shot that squeezed just inside the far post. Karam made a nice play to change the shot angle and the lone assist went to Cody Domagalski. Although the Lightning gained momentum in narrowing the Laker’s lead to 2-1, they were unable to score on the five minute major when the power play resumed. The Lightning had another power play late in the second and stormed back nearly scoring on several chances including a hard shot by John Kisch that clanked off the crossbar. Once again, Prior Lake’s goalie was a difference maker and the Lightning were outshot 11-6.
The Lightning continued pressuring the Lakers in the third and had another early power play on a Prior Lake slashing penalty. Eastview could not buy a goal and it was Prior Lake scoring another power play goal halfway through the third to take a 3-1 lead. The Lakers would score again at even strength shortly after an Eastview penalty expired late in the period. For the game the Lakers were 2-4 on the power play while the Lightning were 0-6, a reversal from the previous game between these teams when Eastview won by the same score. Only one of the five goals occurred during five on five play and the Lightning were outshot 33-27. In a very physical game with numerous slashing, roughing and elbowing penalties the power play was decisive.
The Lightning next take on Chaska at the Apple Valley Sports Arena on Weds., Feb. 2, followed by a nearly weeklong break before a pivotal South Suburban and section matchup against Rosemount on Tuesday, Feb., 8 also at AVSA. Calling all superfans!
1/25: Eastview Varsity Hockey returned home on Tuesday night and came away with a 2-1 victory over Farmington. Tanner Kronberg scored in the first period to get the Lightning started on a nice tip of a shot by Ryan Moline. Charlie Ortman also got an assist on the goal.
Farmington picked up their pace in the 2nd period with 14 shots on Eastview goalie Jay Svaren and one goal. Eastview also scored in the 2nd period on a nice backhand shot by Cody Domagalski with an assist to John Kisch. The period ended with Eastview ahead 2-1. Scoring chances were tough to come by in the 3rd period and no goals were scored. Svaren and the Lightning defense had a solid game. Svaren’s save percentage is now at a very solid 92% for the season. The win brings Eastview’s overall record to 12-6.
Congratulations to the varsity wrestlers on earning their 5th conference win and defeating Prior Lake 37-30. The Lightning were down 18-30 before winning the last four matches to earn the win. Earning pins were Spencer Lee, Brady Kelley, Luke Habeck, and Jack Stevens. Also earning wins were Carter Harris, Pierce Lewis, Ethan Dupont, and Alex Baccoli. This is the first win against Prior Lake since 2010. Nice win Team 2022: Embrace the Corner.
On Wednesday, the Lightning competed against Farmington earning 5 wins but came up short on the scoreboard losing 27-44. Earning pins were Nolan Enderlein and Cole Frost. Also earning wins were Carter Harris, Ezra Formaneck, and Alex Baccoli.
The wrestlers next competition is on Thursday at home against Burnsville and Tartan beginning at 5:00pm. We will be celebrating the senior wrestlers and their parents.
JV SPORTS
1/29/22 - Eastview Boys JV Hockey Team Loses to Prior Lake
Prior Lake was the first to score in Saturday’s JV boys hockey game against the Lightning. Eastview was on the power play just 4:11 into the first but the Lakers managed a shorthanded goal when they put one through the five hole and took the lead 1-0. The first period was a fast paced match-up with some strong saves by Eastview goalie Blake Jensen, but the Lightning found themselves down 0 - 1 at the end of the first. Eastview only had 4 shots on goal; Prior Lake had 10.
The score remained close throughout the second. With less than one minute left to play in the second, both teams were on a four and four with players in the box from separate penalties. Neither team managed to score in the second. At the end of the period, Eastview was again down 0 – 1 with only 2 shots on net for the period. Jensen kept the Lightning in the game and ended the second with 10 saves for the period.
Eastview finally tied it up 1-1 with 12:58 left in the third with Kevin Woehler tickling the twine. Woehler was assisted by Jaymeson Zackery and Reed Ellingson. The lead did not last long. In less than 30 seconds Eastview let Prior Lake in close to the net and they tapped it in to take the lead again 2-1. The Lightning had an opportunity to score halfway through the third when Prior Lake was assessed a penalty. Unfortunately Eastview was sent to the box shortly thereafter and was back on a four on four. With less than three minutes left in the third, the Lakers came into the net hard and scored to put Prior Lake in the lead 3-1.
Eastview pulled their goalie with 1:04 left in the game, and Prior Lake scored on the open net to bring it to 4-1 Lakers. Final shots on goal for the game were 13 for Eastview and 31 for Prior Lake. The loss dropped Eastview's record to a respectable 13-6-3. The Lightning's next matchup is on Groundhog’s Day, and they will be looking to cast a dark shadow over the Chaska Hawks.

HIGH SCHOOL RUGBY
Rugby registration is open for our Girls and Boys high school teams.
Our Varsity Boys are looking to defend their State Championship, and are ranked 31st in the Nation in pre-season rankings. Our Varsity Girls program is up and coming, and we expect to challenge at the top in Minnesota this year in building up to our 2023 Scotland Tour.
WE NEED PLAYERS. No experience is necessary. We have many holes to fill and first-year players will get significant playing/starting time. In rugby, everybody plays, everybody carries the ball, and everybody tackles. Rugby suits all body shapes and sizes, and teaches explosiveness, decision-making, and agility. Rugby is the only spring sport that teaches safe and highly effective tackling to improve HS football player performance and to help avoid injury. We are an ISD 196 club sport, meaning Varsity players may earn their letter.
Practice begins on March 6th and the season runs through the end of the school year. More information, including registration links, may be found at https://www.eaasports.org/rugby.
