Aeries Update
The focus for this month is Privacy and Security. Please visit our Digital Citizenship Canvas Course for videos and activities by grade level in English and Spanish. These activities can be done in the classroom or outside of school time with families.
ASU & SmartSparrow
Attention Biology, Chemistry and ELA 10 teachers! If you are using the ASU Digital Prep materials, there has been a change to the consumer key and shared secret. You will need to change the following information in the app configurations:
- Consumer Key: canvas.pasadena.edu
- Shared Secret: 2fc2330e135a4d78b880d463be297074
This video will walk you through the steps on how to update the credentials in your Canvas course.
ASU Earth and Space Science
ASU has continued to get Google doc requests for unit and course activities from Pasadena students. There are directions in those activities for students to 'make a copy'. Their curriculum team is not granting this request because we do not want the students to edit the master document. Earth & Space Science teachers, please remind your students to make a copy of these documents.
Alternatively, teachers can update their course from Canvas Commons and the documents will automatically make a copy for the student but doing this may cause issues with any work teachers have already done in their course.
Updates
Paper now has new features. Help get your students started by:
Adding the Paper info to your signature so students can access help after hours
Add a vacation responder reminding students and families to utilize Paper Tutoring
Create an assignment they have to use Paper for (i.e. solve this math problem with a Paper Tutor)
Try it during class
Let students know that there is a student app (not one for staff)
Stay up to date on all things Canvas related. Get tips, insights, and info on Canvas in The Study Hall.
- Due to a recent Canvas update, secondary teacher may notice multiple versions of their courses appearing when they select the "Copy to" option. We are working with Canvas to resolve this issue.
- Google Meet Landing Page Update - Google Meet is getting a new interface and workflow update for creating and joining Meets starting this week. Instead of only having the ability to Join or Start a meeting, users will now be able to plan ahead.
- Canvas/Webex Reauthorizing - If you get a message in Canvas that says your Webex authorization has expired, you can fix this by logging out of Canvas (from your Account in the Global Navigation Bar) and then back in.
