Bulldog Group Therapy Spotlight
Therapy groups are using the Superflex curriculum to learn social-emotional skills. This curriculum applies abstract concepts to a concrete supervillain character called an “Unthinkable.”
This week, groups discussed flexible thinking and what it means to be challenged by the Unthinkable “Rock Brain.” Rock Brain tries to restrict flexible thinking. This might look like difficulty transitioning between activities, refusal to try new things, or fixation on a topic. We call this being “stuck.” Students are learning strategies to become more flexible thinkers when they feel they are stuck.
Strategies to “defeat” Rock Brain:
- Self-talk (ex. “I can do it!” or “This is hard, but I can keep trying.”)
- Shifting our focus
- Keeping an open mind
Feel free to use these phrases at home when you see your student "stuck."
Here is a story about defeating "Rock Brain."
X-Large Cardboard Boxes
Cardboard boxes - x-large in size needed for STEAM project for after break
As this is the season for great deals on large appliances and items, if you remember to keep the boxes, Mr. White would be so grateful. He is preparing for a surprise STEAM project for after the winter break that will require lots and lots and lots of large cardboard boxes. If you happen to have empty large to extremely large boxes laying around, please consider donating them to NSAE for an upcoming STEAM project. Thanks in advance!

COVID update
Hi families! I wanted to remind you of how to proceed if someone tests positive for COVID. They should quarantine for 5 days. They may return if they are fever free for 24 hours and do not have symptoms. It is also recommended that they wear a mask for 5 more days once they return without symptoms. Take care!

The Principal's Pound
The first four days back were amazing! The smiles, the stories - all warmed my heart. AND then the snow... WOWSER, there is a lot of it!
While normally, I would say go outside and play in the snow, PLEASE do not do that. It is ridiculously cold and not safe to be outside for periods of time.
SO instead... play games with each other, read stories, have dance parties! Do anything that will bring joy, smiles, and laugher to your family.
Stay warm! Enjoy life! Share smiles! Laugh lots!
As always, please let me know how I can help you as an individual or family, so we can be the best supportive team for your student!
Enjoy your week ahead!
