Principal's Message
Dear Middle School Families,
As we reach the halfway point of the first grading period, I'm delighted to see our students and staff continue to thrive. I want to express my sincere gratitude to our parents, teachers, and community members for their support. Your dedication is instrumental in creating a positive and nurturing learning environment where our students can excel.
A special thanks goes out to our PTO and parent volunteers who made our first school dance of the year a memorable success. Your efforts helped create a fun and safe experience for our students.
Looking ahead, we are excited to announce the upcoming 8th grade Washington DC trip. As we finalize preparations, I encourage parents to stay tuned for important updates. Please note that the Washington DC parent meeting will take place after parent conference night on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, at 7:00 PM in our middle school cafeteria. Our 7th grade students are also gearing up for a local field trip to the Veterans Memorial Museum in Downtown Columbus, where they'll learn about the sacrifices made by our local and national heroes.
Once again, thank you for your continued support of our school.
Mr. Kevin L. Freeman Sr.
Principal
Electric Scooter & Bike Safety
This year, we have seen a significant increase in the number of students that are riding electric scooters or bikes to campus. These new vehicles move at much greater speeds than traditional scooters and bikes creating the potential for unsafe situations or accidents. We would like to invite all of our families to please have a conversation with your student(s) to make sure that everyone remains safe on our school campus and while traveling to and from home.
1. Stay on Sidewalks: Students should always ride on sidewalks where available to keep themselves and pedestrians safe. Students should not ride on the road or through parking lots.
2. Stop at Crosswalks: Remind them to stop at all crosswalks and look both ways before crossing to ensure it's safe.
3. Watch for Traffic: Encourage students to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings, especially when navigating through busy areas.
4. Speed Limit: Students should not exceed 10 miles per hour on campus to maintain control and react quickly to obstacles.
5. Wear a Helmet: A properly fitted helmet is crucial for protection. All students under the age of 18 are required to wear helmets in New Albany when operating a bike or scooter.
6. No Doubling Up: Only one rider per scooter or bike is allowed to ensure stability and safety.
7. Secure Your Ride: Remind them to lock up their bikes and scooters when not in use to prevent theft.
By following these guidelines, we will be able to maintain a safe and secure learning environment for our students, staff, and community. Let's stay safe, Eagles!
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent Teacher Conferences are an opportunity for parents to meet with teachers to hear about their student’s areas of strengths & weaknesses. You do not have to meet with all of your child’s teachers. We recommend you prioritize the teachers of the classes where your child is struggling.
Dates of conferences are:
Tuesday, Spetember 24, 2024
Wednesday, October 9, 2024
Counselors Corner
OhioHealth Bereavement Services is collaborating with New Albany Middle School to offer a small group focused on the topic of Grief. Grief is a complex emotion and can impact individuals in different ways. Grief is not limited to the loss of people, but it can begin when a close family member or friend is diagnosed with a terminal illness. If you feel that your student would benefit from being a part of this program, please reach out to your child's grade level counselor: Leslie Wilson, 8th grade, wilson.57@napls.us and Margie Thompson, 7th grade, thompson.2@napls.us.
PSAT for 8th Grade Students
8th grade students will take the PSAT 8/9 on Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024 using IPADs; scores will be released in mid-November. We will NOT have a make-up date for students that are not here to test on this day.
If you or your child have questions about the PSAT 8/9, please contact our school guidance department.
More details will be sent out via e-mail as we get closer to the testing date!
Taking the PSAT 8/9 can also help your child to:
Understand their strengths and what skills they need to work on.
Find out what AP® courses they’re ready to take.
Discover career options by exploring a sample of growing careers in their state.
Building an Inclusive Campus Culture
During the 2024-25 school year, we will recognize various cultural and commemorative dates. Our Building an Inclusive Campus Culture (BICC) committee will develop activities and/or displays as appropriate for our middle school students. Our focus will be on highlighting the significant contributions that these diverse groups of people have made to our world while further strengthening our culture of kindness, dignity, and respect.
The following cultural and commemorative dates & individuals will be recognized this year:
September/October 2024: Hispanic Heritage Month
October 2024: LGBTQ+ History Month
November 2024: Native American Heritage Month
February 2025: Black History Month
March 2025: Disability Awareness Month/Women's History Month
May 2025: Asian American Pacific Islander Month
How we will recognize each month:

Friday short video announcement highlighting the contributions of people who are being recognized during the month.
These announcements will be curated by our BICC team and presented by a mix of staff and students.
These announcements will take place during our study center periods on each Friday of the month.
Before each month, parents will receive information on how these dates will be recognized and a preview of the materials/information that will be shared with our students. This information will include the individuals being recognized as part of the Famous Friday announcements and the biographical information that will be shared.
