Hopkins Middle School Newsletter
June 12th, 2020
Hello Parents and Students,
The first week of summer is in the books. Our plan is to send out an update to you through this newsletter every few weeks over the summer. Please keep checking your email or Facebook for the new editions.
A huge thank you goes out to all students, parents, and staff who made our three days of school material returns run so smoothly. If you were unable to make one of the three dates, please reach out to me and we can schedule a day for drop off in the next week or so.
Please be aware of two separate surveys that went out to students and parents last week. We are hoping to get feedback on our Distance Learning Plan and gather input that could help shape how we come back in the fall. Check the email you associated with School Messenger for the link. Students, your link was emailed to your student email account.
Middle school grades will be sent home next week. Please note that trimester one and two are graded on the traditional grading system. Trimester three was much different. This grade system was unique to our building. You will see a CR for a grade if your student participated at all. Below the CR is an estimated percentage of participation in the class. For example, Johnny turned in about half of the work for his math class, so he received a CR 50%. The only way a student received a No Credit or NC is if they failed to turn in any assignments for the teacher. Please reach out if you have any questions about how we graded the third trimester in the Middle School.
Finally, I am proud to announce our 8th-Grade Promotion Ceremony Video and our All A's Award Video will be posted to the main website at 5:00 pm tonight, June 12th. You can get to the video by visiting www.hpsvikings.org and clicking the video link. Congratulations to all our award winners.
Thank you for your continued support throughout the past few months. We look forward to seeing you in the fall.
Sincerely,
Scott Stockwell
HMS Principal

Art in Nature Club
The Art in Nature club would like to invite all Middle School students and their families to join us for a field trip to the Outdoor Discovery Center.
We will have a behind-the-scenes tour and meet some of the captive wildlife up close. There will be time to explore the trails at your own pace, romp on the playscape, and picnic at the pavilion.
(This is a club activity, not a school event. Every family must arrange their own transportation and picnic lunch.)
Date: Saturday July 25
Time: 11 am - 1 pm
Location: Outdoor Discovery Center 4214 56th St. Holland MI
