MEET SELC, our mascot! He is an eaglet who will grow up to be an Enfield High School Eagle.
SELC is committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for students, families, and staff, regardless of background, nationality, or beliefs. Amid current complex world events, our primary concern remains the well-being and emotional support of ALL members of the SELC community.
October 27, 2023
I don't know about you, but it feels like October flew by! Just a reminder that we have afternoon and evening family conferences on November 20th and 29th.
WONDERING WHEN AND HOW TO SIGN UP FOR YOUR CONFERENCE?
This year we are using a new system to schedule these meetings. I have included the link that will take you to a "how to" video as well as the link to click for our school. I applaud everyone for trying out this new process and for your patience as we work to understand any issues that may arise with it!
PLEASE NOTE*
If your child receives Speech and Language Services, sign up for two conferences, one with your child's teacher and then one with your amazing Speech and Language Interventionist!
A FEW REMINDERS for NOVEMBER:
- NO SCHOOL NOVEMBER 7th
- NO SCHOOL NOVEMBER 10th
- Early release NOVEMBER 22rd
- NO SCHOOL NOVEMBER 23TH AND 24TH
A few reminders:
- Payment for iPad insurance was due by 10/15/23. You can send a check payable to Enfield Public Schools, cash handed to a classroom staff so they can document accordingly, or on MySchoolBucks (See DIRECTIONS BELOW).
- If your child outgrows their clothing (especially pants) Nurse Jen will take them! Accidents happen and we run out of extra clothing quickly!
- Health and safety are top priorities and I thank you for doing your part! Nurse Jen and I are overwhelmed with how incredibly diligent all of you have been in regards to monitoring your child for illness and asking questions as they arise!
- Nurse Jen will need proof of flu vaccination by December 22, 2023. You can email it to her jmaier@enfieldschools.org, send in a hard copy, or fax it (860) 253-0096!

Executive Function...what is it and what does practice look like in action in PK?
Executive Function Strategy: Graphic Practice
Graphic Practice
Description:
Graphic Practice can be either a small or large group activity that is led by the teacher.
How we do it…
Each session begins with a pretend scenario or story. Then the teacher models for the children what they will draw when the music starts. Each drawing is broken down into steps. Each step of the drawing is done 3 times (the music will start and stop 3 times). When the music stops the children are to stop drawing and hold their marker up in the air, when the music starts again they continue their drawing.
Example:
We are celebrating the end of the year. We need to make lots and lots of balloons for the end of year celebration!
First we need to draw the circles, then the triangle at the bottom of each circle then a squiggly tail to hold onto. (teacher will model each part of the drawing)
What are the children learning?
Developing fine motor skills
Listening skills
Symbolic representation
Self-regulation
This activity focuses on the following Executive Function skills:
Inhibitory control of actions and attention by starting and stopping the drawing with the music
Working Memory by using private speech to help them remember what they need to be drawing
Cognitive Flexibility by being okay with their drawing looking different from the teachers/others and by being okay if the music stops and they are not finished with the graphic
