Greetings Colleagues,
Welcome to the new school year! I hope the last couple of months have provided you with the opportunity to rest, spend time with loved ones and re-energize for the year ahead.
What an honor it is to begin my tenure as your Executive Director! I want to thank Fran Whitten for being my mentor during the past year and wish him well in retirement after the many years of service he has given to our association. 2023-2024 is sure to be an exciting year!
This year you will be led by President Tom Tarpey who will be supported by 1st VP Jim Quatromoni, 2nd VP Kelly Wolff, 3rd VP Jen Gouvin, Past-President, Matt Trahan as well as our secretary Tania Rich and Treasurer Keith Mangan.
In addition, Mike Denise returns as our Conference Coordinator. Mike is already hard at work preparing for our Annual Conference which will take place this coming March in Hyannis, an event not to be missed!
Karrah Ellis, continues as our LTC Coordinator, providing the opportunity for you to take numerous NIAAA courses during the year as well as during our conference.
In addition to our Executive Board, we are blessed to have other very dedicated and talented professionals filling important roles in our Association. They include Andy Crisafulli (Communications), Terry Riley (Awards Chair), Thom Holdgate (Mentoring Chair) and Jeff Long (Retirees rep). Our Past President, Matt Trahan also serves as our Web Administrator and co-hosts our podcast (sponsored by Gold Athletics) with Treasurer Keith Mangan. Our 9 District representatives and two At-Large members round out this outstanding group!
The MSSADA continues to make strides as an organization as shown by the growth in our membership. Massachusetts was recognized at our National Athletic Directors Conference this past year having achieved membership of over 100%. Thank you to all of you for helping us reach that level!
As announced last spring, we have entered into an agreement with the New England Revolution for a program starting this fall. Stay tuned for more details, it’s sure to be exciting!
We have also been able to partner with some incredible sponsors! I encourage you to check them out on our website (www.mssada.org) and consider bringing them onboard within your own school communities.
Our website offers a great deal of valuable information that will assist you in your day-to-day operations as an Athletic Administrator. Click on the “Resources” tab to find numerous links including the New AD Survival Guide and an informative PowerPoint on the Role of the Athletic Director.
Whether you are a veteran or new to the profession, you will find that the role of an Athletic Administrator can take many paths, some extremely rewarding yet some very challenging. Whatever the circumstances, please remember that the MSSADA and your fellow ADs are here to support you.
In closing, I want to remind you that your guidance and influence can have a lasting effect on the student-athletes that we work with every day, and they can do the same for us!
Wishing you well,
Ann Trytko, CAA
MSSADA Executive Director
FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT...
Tom Tarpey
Greeting Athletic Directors,
I hope everyone had a chance to enjoy the summer and got to spend quality time with family and friends. I am honored to be taking the role as your incoming President for 2023-2024 school year. I will be taking over this position from Matthew Trahan, who has served for the past year. Matt has done an excellent job as our leader, and I am proud to have him serving on the board as he moves into his new role as Past-President. I am looking forward to working with our new Executive Director, Ann Trytko in keeping our association in good standing and moving in a positive direction.
A special welcome to our new Athletic Directors who are starting their careers in educational athletics and will guide our students and families throughout the school year. The role of the Athletic Director is more important than ever, and I am inspired when I think of how you can contribute to our student athletes in the year ahead. Our profession is very busy but much more rewarding than most think. We lead our coaches in ensuring our student athletes learn life lessons through participation.
As President I urge everyone to get involved in any way in the Association. There are many opportunities on Sport Committees, District Athletic Committees and others, so please reach out if you have any questions. We are looking to create a year of collaboration and impactful professional development and exchange ideas to support our athletic programs, and make educational athletics something that our students will never forget. Please take advantage of all the opportunities that MSSADA has to offer to help us thrive and excel as Athletic Administrators.
Thank you for allowing me to serve as your MSSADA President. I am excited to serve our members and bring MSSADA forward and upward. I encourage you to share any feedback and ideas that you may have. Be on the lookout for the many opportunities the we will offer throughout the year. Please reach out to me or any of our Board Members during the year. We all want to work together in ways that we can better serve you, our members.
Yours sincerely,
Tom Tarpey
