This week can be difficult for many students, knowing there is a period of time away from their normal schedule coming up with the winter break. We have a lot of fun activities this week to help keep students engaged in learning. Please help make sure your student gets a lot of sleep this week.

On Friday, December 15th, our Spirit Day will be Winter Wonderland. Students can dress in colors that represent snow (like white, light blue, sparkles), snowflakes, or winter weather clothing. We will also be having an assembly at the beginning of the day focused around gratitude.

This week, our school will conduct a fire drill. We cannot share the exact date or time of the drill. The purpose of a fire drill is to practice the response to a fire inside our school. Staff will prepare students for the drill and support individual students as needed. We expect students to follow their teacher's instructions and walk quietly out of the school to the assembly area. The drill will end with an "All Clear" announcement. Staff will escort students back into the school at the end of the drill. We want all of our students at school every day for consistent connection and instruction. Please plan to send your student to school each day, unless they have any of the symptoms listed below in our guidance.

If your student does become sick with any of these symptoms, please call our attendance line as soon as possible and leave your student's name, grade, and symptoms: 503-844-1673.

All kids should feel safe and be safe at school. SafeOregon gives kids, parents, schools, and their communities a way to confidentially or anonymously report safety threats or potential acts of violence. Together, we'll empower people to speak out and spark change. One tip can save a life.

If you believe a bias incident has occurred, there are two ways to report the incident, our HSD Mobile App and Oregon Safe. These incidents could be student to student, student to staff, or staff to student.

The Oregon Food Bank Free Food Market offers free, fresh, and healthy fruits, vegetables, and pantry staples to Hillsboro community members on the second Tuesday of every month from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Hillsboro Self Sufficiency, 5300 NE Elam Young Pkwy.
