Welcome back and welcome home!
Dear High School of Service & Learning Parents,
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health and high spirits. We are thrilled to embark on another exciting academic journey with your child, and we're eager to see the growth and achievements that lie ahead.
As we navigate this school year together, we want to ensure that you stay well-informed and engaged with our school community. To facilitate this, we are pleased to introduce our weekly parent update newsletter, which will be distributed every Monday.
This newsletter serves as a valuable resource to keep you up-to-date with all things happening at High School of Service & Learning. It contains a wealth of information, including:
1. **Student Activities:** We'll feature photos and updates on student activities, including field trips, class projects, and other enriching experiences.
2. **School Events:** You'll find details about upcoming school events, meetings, and any unexpected closures or schedule changes.
3. **Community Events:** Stay informed about local community events and resources that may be of interest to your family.
4. **Sporting Events:** Keep track of our sports teams' schedules and results, so you can cheer on our student-athletes.
5. **Parent Workshops:** Discover opportunities to participate in workshops that empower you to support your child's education.
6. **Parent Association Meetings:** Stay connected with our school's parent association and learn about their initiatives and meetings.
We believe that this newsletter will not only keep you informed but also help you feel more connected to our school community. Your involvement is vital to the success of our students, and we look forward to your active participation throughout the year.
If you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback regarding the newsletter or any other school matters, please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We value your input and are here to assist you in any way we can.
Once again, welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! Together, we will make it a year filled with growth, achievement, and positive memories.

Brooklyn Children's Museum's Teen Curators Program Fall Applications open!
We wanted to share with you that Brooklyn Children's Museum Teen Curators Program Fall Application is opening on September 11th.
The Teen Curators Program at Brooklyn Children’s Museum explores the museum process through a historical lens and positions participants as active agents of change, power and influence in the process of museum curation. Participants will learn about curation with artwork and historical objects, and will actively engage the questions: How is history presented, who makes the decisions about presentation and representation, and who holds the power?
Through readings, in-class discussions, museum visits, art making, remote work, and a culminating end-of-semester exhibit and curator talk, teens will leave the program having gained insight and knowledge in museums, museum work, and their own curatorial practice.
The Teen Program’s fall semester runs from October 16 to December 13.
This program consists of in-person meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 pm–6:30 pm and 2 hours of remote work on a weekly basis.
Teens receive a stipend of $750 before tax.
Applications open on September 11 and close on September 29.
Application opens on September 11th here: https://forms.gle/wk4jgxWP3Z3drt7g9
Please feel free to share within your networks to any teen who might be interested in this paid, museum internship experience. Please reach out to Francesca Sotomayor, Coordinator and Facilitator of Teen Programs at: fsotomayor@brooklynkids.org if you have any questions.
