Rattler Mariachi Cinco de Mayo Fiesta
San Marcos High School’s Mariachi Nuevo Cascabel spent Cinco De Mayo visiting campuses serenading eleven San Marcos CISD campuses with an additional stop at the Centro Cultural luncheon. Thank you to our Mariachi students and Mr. Cavazos for displaying their talents through beautiful sounds!
SMHS Inaugural Decision Day
SMHS students from the class of 2023 participated in the inaugural Decision Day ceremony on Friday, May 5. Seniors each got their moment in the hot seat to sign a certificate and make a public commitment to their post-secondary option of choice. Shoutout to Megan Mossman, GEAR UP Coordinator and the entire GEAR UP team as well as Advise Texas representative, Mr. Castellanos for organizing this event.
Feliz Cinco de Mayo!
On Thursday, May 4, the SMHS Spanish department and San Marcos CISD Bilingual and ESL department, partnered to host a Cinco de Mayo celebration featuring mariachi performances, ballet folklorico and traditional Mexican cuisines. Round of applause for the wonderful emcees, Walter Navarro and Cinderella Sierra, SMHS Juniors.
Rattlers earn Bi-District Championship
The San Marcos HS Baseball Team is advancing to the Area round of the UIL State Baseball Playoffs after defeating the Churchill Chargers in the opening round. The three- games series ended with a 5-2 Rattler victory on Saturday afternoon. The Rattlers will move on to take on Lake Travis in Round 2.
Series schedule:
Game 1: Friday, May 12 - 8PM
Game 2: Saturday, May 13 - 4PM
(If necessary) Game 3: 30 minutes following Game 2
All games will take place at Dripping Springs High School.
Simply the Best!
In conclusion of their award-winning season, the San Marcos High School Dance program hosted their annual Spring Show on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6. This year's show featured performances inspired some of music's all time legends and icons. From Whitney to Britney, Elvis, Prince and even the Queen of Tejano Music, Selena. Congratulations to our SMHS Dazzlers, Diamond Line and Dance Director, Michelle Knight, on a fantastic year and final show!
Travis County Star Flight Lands at Rattler Stadium
The San Marcos HS EMT students had a windy greeting from the Travis Country Star Flight crew on Wednesday, May 4. Students were able to ask questions and take a tour of the helicopter. The crew always consists of three Star Flight employees: Pilot, Rescue Flight Nurse and a Rescue Flight Paramedic. Thank you Travis County STAR Flight for stopping and visiting with our Rattlers.
Going on a Bear Walk
Our Bonham Bears and their families took part in Bear Walk on Friday, May 5. The fun featured a 1-mile walk, snow cones, face painting and activities. Our Bears received medals and prizes for completing the fun walk.
High School Diploma + Associate's Degree = Rattler Up
San Marcos CISD is proud to present the inaugural Early College High School (ECHS) Class of 2023! This program is comprised of SMHS students who have earned their Associate's Degree and high school diploma, simultaneously. The ECHS program still allows students to participate in extracurricular activities, obtain CTE certifications, take Advanced Placement courses, and even participate in clubs and organizations.
The SMCISD Communications department will be featuring graduates every week, leading up to graduation, via social media, our website and the Rattler Recap. If you see any of our ECHS grads, be sure to wish them a warm Rattler congratulations!
Rattler Sports Clinic
San Marcos High School Rattlers spent their afternoon with the Hernandez Elementary Heroes on Wednesday, May 3. The student-athletes shared insight into how much dedication and hard work is required to compete at the high school level. Students got to go to their sport station of choice and run through drills facilitated by our SMHS student-athletes.
Fiesta de Mendez
Mendez Elementary’s dual language program celebrated Cinco De Mayo on Wednesday, May 3. The night featured baile folklórico performances by first, second and third grade Strikers. The event also included fun games and activities, face painting, and arts and crafts.

Glow Day returns to Goodnight Math Class
Algebra and geometry teachers at Goodnight MS wanted one final lesson before students took their math STAAR test this week. Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Bost, Ms. Uddin, Mrs. Wilder, and Mrs. Lancaster held their second annual Glow Day where students were able to take part in math review games such as Name that Calculator Skill, Math Pictionary, Brain Dumps, and a Calculator Escape Room!
Climate Action Summer Camp
San Marcos CISD is proud to partner with Science Mill to offer Science Summer Camps for high school students for FREE! Spots are limited so early registration is encouraged. Parents or guardians must register their interest by completing the pre-registration form for each individual child. Students will be selected based on a lottery system and campers will be notified by Monday, May 15th.

(Students will be at the Meadow Center on the 13th & the 16th. Transportation will be provided by SMHS.) 8 am-3 pm. Limited to 15 students

Lady Rattler Basketball Camp
The SMHS Girls basketball team is hosting a summer basketball came May 31-June 2 inside the SMHS gymnasium.
1st-5th Grade students: 830AM-10AM
6th-9th Grade students: 11AM-1PM
Cost is $40

Friday, May 5, was School Lunch HERO Day! San Marcos CISD would like to shoutout our Child Nutrition Department for preparing healthy meals for our Rattlers, every day. They adhere to strict nutrition standards and navigate student food allergies — all while offering service with a smile! Thanks for all you do!
