The Study of Inventors
Students researched inventors from our past who have made a significant contribution to our society. They studied inventors from the 1870s through the early 1900s to discover the impact they had on society then and today.
- For instance, one DW group learned that Alexander Graham Bell's invention of the telephone helped to do away with the telegraph system and paved the way for mobile cell phones we all enjoy.
- Thomas Edison created the light bulb which evolved into more advanced led and fluorescent light bulbs.
For pictures of students working on these projects, please visit Daniel Wright's Google Doc folder.
Smart Watches and Cell Phones in Lockers Only
We have seen an increase in the number of students with smart watches and cell phones in classrooms. Smart watches and phones are allowed at school but must be turned off and stored in the student's locker during school hours unless otherwise allowed by the school principal. Phones and smart watches may be used before and after school hours. This is to limit distractions and ensure a safe learning environment for all students. If you need to reach your child, please contact the school office by phone or email.
Order Books to be Signed by the Author

Late Arrival Reminder
Thursday, Sept. 15, will be the first of four late arrival days for D103 students. Late arrival days allow our teachers and staff extended time to collaborate on instructional planning and professional development to improve student learning.
Students start school 90 minutes later than their normal start time, which means buses will arrive 90 minutes later than their scheduled arrival time.
- School starts at 10:00 a.m.
- Please do not drop students off at school before 9:35 a.m.
ASA Registration
Registration for Fall After School Activity courses and clubs at DW opens at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, and closes at 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26. Please use the RevTrak Web Store platform to register for all programs. Programs do fill up and are offered on a first-come first-serve basis. Except where noted, activities begin the first week of October and run for about six weeks. For an overview of the classes, please review the news bulletin.
End of Day Pick Up Reminder
Please pick up students after school at their grade level door. Follow the pick up diagram for vehicular traffic.
- Sixth-Grade Door R
- Seventh-Grade Door I
- Eighth-Grade Door H
After 3:30 p.m. parents must either park in a designated parking spot and enter the building to pick up their student or go through the vehicle pick up line.
Student IDs Needed for Lunch Purchases
Students must have their student ID to purchase lunch. Please remind your child to bring it to lunch each day. We also suggest that students leave their IDs in their lockers to be sure they have them each day. Putting the ID on a lanyard or using a magnetic binder clip to hold it to the locker door are suggestions for students to easily locate and keep track of their ID cards. Replacement cards can be printed in the main office for a $5.00 fee.
