PALS Press!
September, 2021
We got the ball rolling!
I feel like I've been starting these notes with some iteration of "You're in good company" or "You're not doing this by yourself" for the last year, but I want to share some numbers with you that are really warming my heart.
60% - percentage of comprehensive, k-12 campuses in AISD with a PALS program on-site. For a year with unprecedented staff turnover, changing student enrollment and attendance, and increased workload for all teachers and counselors, this is a remarkable accomplishment. PALS is currently represented in pre-pandemic numbers across AISD!
100% - schools in the LBJ vertical team with PALS on campus. We are welcoming Sadler-Means, Gus Garcia, Pegan Springs, Barbara Jordan, and Overton to the PALS family this year.
Here's the roll-call for PALS programs in the District this year:
Elementary Schools
Andrews, Baldwin, Barbara Jordan, Barrington, Blanton, Boone, T.A. Brown, Campbell, Casey, Clayton, Cunningham, Dawson, Doss, Govalle, Graham, Harris, Hart, Hill, Joslin, Kocurek, Langford, Lee, Linder, Maplewood, Mathews, Menchaca, Norman-Sims, Oak Springs, Odom, Overton, Pecan Springs, Pickle, Pleasant Hill, Summitt, Walnut Creek, Widen, Williams, Zavala
Middle Schools
Bailey, Covington, Dobie, Gorzycki, Lamar, Lively, Sadler-Means, Small
High Schools
Akins, Anderson, Ann Richards, Austin High, Bowie, Crockett, Navarro, LASA, LBJ, McCallum, Travis
This list doesn't include campuses who receive PALS, of which there are many more elementary campuses and several middle schools.
Congratulations, everyone, and here's to a year of great role-modeling, mentoring, and service!
With gratitude for all of your hard work,
Stacia
Trainings and Workshops
First, here are the facts for the upcoming District PALS trainings. These live, virtual trainings are for students and teachers/counselors. They'll be facilitated by Steve Medel of the Texas State School of Social Work (and former Crockett PAL!).
9/29, 10 am - Noon: Middle and High School Training
10/19, 12:30 - 2: Elementary School Training
10/20, 10 - 11:30: Elementary School Training
If you haven't RSVP-ed yet, you can do that here.
Beyond the big PALS trainings, we can also visit your campus to do...
True Colors, a workshop where students identify their leadership style and consider how folks with different styles can collaborate.
Experiential Learning workshops where we can do team-building and cognitive flexibility work with students using the work of Jen Stanchfield as our main course.
Student Brain Lab workshops introduce students to the Neurosequential Model and show them how they can move the thermostat on their own mental state and model that for other students.
Applied TBRI, during which we offer students strategies to connect with each other and the students they mentor and empower them to self-regulate.
Please reach out if you'd like to plan any of these trainings--or something else! We can tailor our work to your campus needs, and each of these is available for all levels. :)
Furthermore, once your students have done the District PALS training for your level, Steve Medel is happy to meet with your students to do virtual trainings and tune-ups for any piece of mentoring that you'd like additional help with. Send me an e-mail and I'm happy to put y'all in touch!
