GMS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER FEBRUARY 9, 2024
Good afternoon Wolf Pack Families,
We had a nice week at Geisler Middle School. We had a home basketball and wrestling meet. Our students began bringing in non-perishable items for our "Soup-er Bowl" to support Hospitality House and give back to our amazing WL community. We honored our Students of the Month on Monday and we are so proud of all of their hard work in the classroom! It is National School Counselors Week and I am so grateful for the work that Mrs. Hart and Mrs. Rutherford do to support our students/staff/families.
Next week we have some fun events planned for our Wolf Pack Community. Scholastic Book Fair will be held M-F of next week. Students will have an opportunity to come in to our media center at some point next week to shop for books. Families can also come in after school on M and TH if they want to bring other siblings (more details below). Our PTSA is hosting a "Cookies and Cocoa" event that is free to all of our Wolf Pack families beginning at 6 pm on Monday. Feel free to stay for the PTSA meeting at 7pm if you would like to hear about the great things that are being planned in our school!
Wishing you all a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Stuart Riley
Principal, Geisler Middle School

Sports Update
Girls basketball and wrestling are working hard! This week the teams competed against Pierce and Oak Valley. Both Girls basketball teams won against Pierce on Monday and the 8th grade team won against Oak Valley as well. Way to go girls! The Wrestling team came up short against Pierce, but won against Oak Valley. Great job!
Next week the teams take on two of our City rivals; Walnut Creek and Sarah Banks. Girls basketball will be home on Monday against Walnut Creek and away Wednesday at Sarah Banks. Wrestling will be away at Walnut Creek on Monday and home against Sarah Banks on Wednesday. Students who wish to attend Home or Away games MUST be accompanied by an adult. No student spectators will be admitted to events without proper adult supervision. Thank you for your cooperation. Good luck to all of our athletes. Go Wolves!
Scholastic Book Fair
We are so excited to have the Scholastic Book Fair come to our school February 12-16. Special thanks to Ms. Precious and Ms. Bobola for helping to run and organize! There are opportunities after school to do some book shopping as well. Please see our calendar at the top of this newsletter for times.

Parent Volunteers Needed
Calling all engineers, programmers, or robot enthusiasts! The GMS Robotics team is looking for mentors. The team meets on Thursdays from 3-4:45 at GMS. Whether you are able to join us part of the time or every week, our team would appreciate your experience and enthusiasm. Please email Mrs. Frost if you are interested in helping our students: rachelfrost@wlcsd.org.
Soup-er Bowl
Geisler’s National Junior Honor Society is hosting a Soup-er Bowl, a canned food drive benefiting the Hospitality House. We are asking students and staff to bring in non-perishable foods to their first hour class. The class with the most cans will win a donut party. The Soup-er Bowl will take place from February 5th to February 16th. Thank you for your support.
Computer Science Discovery with Maya Prep
Maya Prep is hosting a FREE after school enrichment for students who are interested in computer science, coding and web design. At the end of the sessions, students compete for CASH PRIZES in a "Hack-a-thon" for the best "technology project." These classes are taught by community members who work in the technology field. This was a huge hit with our students last year. Please see the attached flyer for more information and course dates. It is important that students have reliable transportation when the class ends.
FREE Before and After School Tutoring
Free before and after school tutoring is back again for the 23/24 school year! If your student is struggling in Math or Reading (ELA), please consider signing them up for some additional support. All of our tutors are certified teachers from Geisler MS. Families must be able to commit to dropping off or picking up their student on time. This is a fantastic opportunity to help your student find success while at GMS! Tutoring sessions begin on October 25. Your student's tutor will reach out to you with further details once you have completed the Tutor Request Form .
Weekend Food Program-Hospitality House
Supporting and caring for our students in any way possible is our mission at GMS. Geisler MS recently partnered with Hospitality House Food Pantry in Walled Lake to bring the Weekend Food Program to our students. If you are a family that could use a little extra help with meals on the weekends, please let your child’s counselor know. Your child’s name will be held confidential. The Weekend Food Program would provide approximately 6 meals and snacks for your student on the weekend. The food would be distributed to your student in a discreet bag or backpack for them to take home each Friday. There is no cost to participate in the program. To optimize a student’s success at school starts with students having enough to eat. Please see the attached flyer for more information about the Weekend Food Program. If you are interested in having your student participate, please contact your student’s counselor Ann Marie Rutherford (Counselor for 6th Grade Students (A-L) and ALL 8th Grade Students) annmarierutherford@wlcsd.org or 248-956-2917 or Amanda Hart (6th Grade Students (M-Z) and ALL 7th Grade Students) amandahart@wlcsd.org or 248-956-2916.
