Spotlight Image: Students in Mrs. Alexis McCain’s English class recently wrote endings to a story to culminate a unit on writing concepts. Students used imagery, figurative language, past tense, and plot structure in their writing. After working with a partner to edit and finalize their stories and provide constructive feedback, students then used technology to create a WeVideo to bring their story to life. 2024-2025 Instructional Calendar
On Monday, January 8, 2024, the Board of School Directors voted to adopt our 2024-2025 instructional calendar. You can view the calendar on our website by clicking the Quick Access link below.
Attention CV9 families only: At the same meeting, the Board approved an amendment to the 2023-2024 school calendar, changing the scheduled spring Virtual Day for CV9 to April 23, 2024. The revision is because of a change in this year's primary election date, in which CV9 is used as a polling location. Please note that this 2023-24 amendment is for CV9 ONLY. The revised 2023-2024 calendar is also on our website.
Dr. Robyn Euker Appointed as Assistant Superintendent
It is with great pride that we share that our Board of School Directors, during this evening’s meeting, voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Robyn Euker as our next Assistant Superintendent. She replaces Dr. Mark Blanchard, who assumed the role of Superintendent of Schools in December.
Dr. Euker currently serves as Cumberland Valley’s Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, a role she has held since 2021.
"I am honored to serve in this new role and look forward to continued collaboration with our dedicated staff, supporting our students and engaging with the community to cultivate an educational environment where all Eagles can soar to their fullest potential,” said Dr. Euker.
Since joining our school community, Dr. Euker has committed herself to ensuring K-12 vertical alignment and continuity of instruction across our 12 schools and 10,200 students. She developed and oversaw the transition from balanced literacy to structured literacy and oversaw the implementation of Amplify CKLA in our elementary schools. Dr. Euker has coordinated and designed specific in-service and professional development programs for our staff to improve the quality of instruction and the implementation of resources with fidelity. She serves as co-chair of our Portrait of an Eagle Steering Committee.
Dr. Euker has been invited to present at the local, state, and national levels, most recently sharing the successes of CV’s programs, staff, and students.
Prior to joining our Eagle community, Dr. Euker served as Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Big Spring School District. She also has experience as an Assistant Principal, Dean of Students, secondary Health and Physical Education Department Chair, and Health and PE Teacher.
Dr. Euker earned her doctorate in Educational Leadership from Wilkes University and a Masters in Public Administration from Villanova University.
Student Photography Selected for Drexel Exhibition
Congratulations to CV High School Photography Portfolio students Aratrika Chakrabarti and Tamsila Hameed, who were recently selected for the prestigious Drexel Photography High School Contest Exhibition. About their work:
(Photo left) Tamsila: “Resilient Routines: Life Amidst Mountain Slides.” This picture was taken almost a year ago when I visited the Northern Areas of Pakistan. These areas include three big mountain ranges, the Himalayas, the Karakorams, and the Hindukush. Living in these high elevations, the locals have become accustomed to several things, one being landslides. Something that’s almost a nightmare for tourists is an everyday occurrence/practice for these locals. They seemed just so calm and absorbed into their normal routines, unbothered by what had just happened.
(Photo right) Aratrika: Nestled between the peaks of the Karakoram range of the mighty Himalayas, at 11,000 feet, lies the small village of Kyagar. A local cooperative, comprised mostly of older women, is trying to preserve and showcase their old ways of living in a nearly 400-year-old ancestral stone home known as Zhimskhang. Sitting in the kitchen, I appreciated the warmth from the traditional oven in the center of the room, where the family members congregated to conserve heat during the frigid Himalayan winters. A couple of their co-op members welcomed me with a cup of hot kahwah tea and delicious buckwheat biscuits, a local delicacy.
You're Invited: Seussical, Kids!
The Hampden Elementary School 4th and 5th-grade choruses and an after-school cast will present ‘Seussical, Kids’ the musical, on Thursday, January 11 at Mountain View Middle School, 7:00 p.m. This is not a ticketed event, and all are welcome to attend. The students have been working hard on this production and are excited to present it to an audience! Concessions will be available. We hope to see you there!
The Eagle Foundation will host the 26th annual Recognition Dinner on April 28, 2024. The Foundation is currently seeking nominations for its Commitment to Excellence Award, the highest honor bestowed at the event. The nomination deadline is Feb. 12, 2024. Those eligible include volunteers, administrators, alumni, coaches, staff, teachers, and students having a current or past connection with the Cumberland Valley School District (CVSD). The award is given annually to an eligible person who, through demonstrated excellence in actions or achievements, deserves recognition as a role model for the CVSD community. CV building employees will also be selected for recognition. CV Building Stars are identified through an internal selection process coordinated by each building principal. Please use this link to access the nomination form and dinner details.
