UUCSJS Midweek Message
October 7, 2020
Minister's Meditation
Rev. Dawn has two pieces for us this week to help jump-start our thinking (and acting) about deep listening. Many of us have been listening our whole lives, we have to be good at it by now right? Well, it turns out, listening - the kind of deep listening we are focusing on this month, is actually really difficult. Are you holding space for others to share their stories?
Take some time this week to catch your breath and contemplate what it means to really listen.
This Sunday
Hearing Vulnerability and Fear
-Rev. Dawn Fortune
Deep listening asks us to be open to hearing more than just what our ears can sense. Deep listening asks us to listen to the feelings and reasons buried within what we can perceive with our physical senses. It has been said that fear often looks like anger. In times of deep personal and national anxiety, we are challenged to listen through the noise to find the vulnerable source of fear that fuels that anger. In this election season, what must we do to connect in this way? Join us as we explore.
Information on upcoming services can be found HERE.
For those hearing-impaired, pdf copies of Rev. Dawn's sermons are available on our website at the link above. Also, entire services are uploaded to our YouTube channel each Sunday afternoon where Closed Captioning is available.

THERE IS STILL TIME TO SIGN UP!
For as long as humans have existed, we have wondered about the origins of the earth and the heavens, sought to define ourselves, and looked for life’s deep meanings and purpose. As Unitarian Universalists, our beliefs and philosophies are beautifully diverse, if often something of an unstructured gobbledygook. Ask ten UUs about their theology, you’re likely to get a dozen different answers. In this class, we will examine our own early lessons about the world and our place in it, and define (as we are able) what it is we know to be true about humanity, the natural world, and our place in it.
Because the sessions build on one another, it is recommended that participants commit to attending all four sessions.
