NOTRE DAME CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3| WEEK 9 |15 SEPTEMBER 2022
Dear Parents and Staff
What an amazing day we had last Friday as we celebrated Mercy Day. After our Mass, so beautifully hosted by our Year Three classes, the children returned to their classrooms to complete activities about the Foundress of the Mercy Order, Catherine McAuley. I was particularly impressed by the cardboard baskets made by the Pre Primary children to replicate the baskets that the Sisters, the “walking nuns”, as they were called, would use to carry all of their necessary items as they went into the slums of Dublin.
There was even a dress up photo booth and a disco along with so many other activities, with all of this followed by a sausage sizzle, juice box and an icy pole. What more could you ask for…….an afternoon of fun activities with our buddies, of course!
The very generous support of our day by our community managed to raise $2181.00 which will be presented to one of the Mercy Sisters, hopefully at our end of year Concert.
We hope the children were exhausted after such a full day of activities because the staff certainly were!
EDU-DANCE
With Mercy Day still fresh in our minds, we’re already moving on to another of the students’ favourite events, the Edu-Dance Concert. We are looking forward to the M classes entertaining us tomorrow and the P classes strutting their stuff next Wednesday. Both Concerts commence at 2.15pm and we look forward to many parents joining us to see the children’s great performances.
DATE CHANGE
Due to the holiday to commemorate the passing of Queen Elizabeth ll, our Staff Professional Development Day has been tentatively rescheduled to Monday 7 November. I apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause.YEAR FIVE MUSEUM
What a treat It was to see the Year Five students demonstrating the many Drama skills that they have learnt, during their Living Statue Museum in the school Hall yesterday afternoon. There is no way that I could have held the still positions that they were able to, and I certainly couldn’t have kept a straight face when my Principal tried to make me laugh. It has been a particularly busy Term for our Year Fives and I am so impressed with how they have embraced all of the opportunities that they have been afforded. Thank you to Mrs Miller for all of her hard work to prepare the students and to their teachers for helping them to be ready.
DANCE PERFORMANCE
Next Monday afternoon parents, students and staff have the opportunity to see our two very polished Dance Groups perform their items from the Catholic Performing Arts Festival on the school courts. They both performed exceptionally at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, and it will be great for the other children to see their wonderful routines.
As an added bonus, the Year Five classes will perform their line dance routines that they have been learning with Mrs Evans during Music classes.
NO NEWSLETTER
As it is a short school week, there will be no Newsletter next week.
LONG SERVICE LEAVE
My last day for this Term will be tomorrow as I am taking some Long Service Leave to visit my daughter in London. Mrs Boyle will take on the Principal role until my return in week three of Term Four. I wish you all a wonderful end to the Term and a relaxing holiday break from the school routine.

MERCY DAY 2022
What an amazing day we had last Friday for Mercy Day!
We commenced our day with a wonderful Mass celebrated with all children from Kindergarten to Year 6. After the Mass, all students went back to their classes to learn more about the Mercy Charism.
Our fete commenced after recess and what a time we had! The stalls included mini golf, ping pong games, guess how many items in the jar and soccer and basketball games!
The afternoon was dedicated time spent with our buddy classes which gave us another opportunity to spend some time together.
Best of all, we raised money for the Mercy Sisters!
Finally, thank you to our wonderful parents who volunteered to help out cooking the sausage sizzle and with the junior classes - your time is much appreciated.
We are already counting down the days to
Presentation Day 2023!
YR 5 CLASS NEWS
What a term our Year Fives have had! From completing the BRLA assessment, visiting the Western Australian Museum, presenting information about a chosen Notable and not to mention the upcoming Edu Dance and drama performances. Our Year Fives seem to have done it all! We all deserve a holiday. Thank goodness we only have one week to go!
Edu Dance
The students are looking forward to participating in Edu Dance in week 10 and can’t wait to ‘Rock this Party!’ They have been practising very hard and we have no doubt that each of them will look sensational.
Night of the Notables
Building on from the Awesome Aussies in Year Four, our Year Five students presented and delivered an oral presentation on a chosen ‘Notable’ a few weeks ago. The presentations were absolutely outstanding and each student should be extremely proud of their efforts!
Drama
This term, we are lucky enough to have the wonderful Mrs Miller taking the Year Five students for drama. They have been working hard designing and creating a character from the future. We are very much looking forward to seeing their performance this week!

Contact the front office if you are interested in booking your child/ren into our Vacation Care Program.
The cut-off day for submission is Friday, 16 September 2022. Places are limited.
OSHC
The children participated in ball games on Friday afternoon. Everyone enjoyed kicking the footy, using hand and eye coordination to play dodgeball. They also had a competition on collecting the balls from the other team while playing “Rob the Nest.” The ball games encourages the children to play by the rules and fairly.
We planned the program that encouraged children to engage in "World Beard Day". The children created their own beard and moustache and then played blindfold games by sticking the created beard or moustache onto paper including their own faces. As children enjoyed this activity, the service is going to extend this play experience onto our holiday program. This was such a wonderful experience! This requires self-identity, creativity and imagination skills.
