Welcome Back Sentinels - Here We Go 2024!
We hope everyone had a wonderful and restful Winter Break. We are excited to have our Sentinels back in the building on Monday. As we look forward to the new year, there are a lot of big moments ahead. Seniors are counting down to graduation, winter sports are at their halfway point, many clubs and CTSO organizations are looking toward competitions, next year, class scheduling will start soon, and the end of the first semester is just around the corner.
As we reach these benchmarks, our goal is to communicate and partner with you along the way clearly. Don't hesitate to contact your students' teachers for any questions regarding their classes, especially as the semester ends. Our counselor team is ready to help with any graduation, class schedules, or other social-emotional needs, and our admin team and support staff are here to help.
We are excited about what 2024 has in store.

Running Start & PCSC Students Update
Sentinel Center Closed
As was mentioned in December, We have closed the Sentinel Center to help protect student privacy and supervision.
Running Start students who elect to be on campus when not at Pierce College will now utilize the library. This will provide a supervised and comfortable location for students who do not have their own transportation to complete academic work. Students must remain in the library when they are not in a SHS class. Failure to follow this may result in discipline for the student.
Winter Schedules Needed from Running Start Students
Winter Session for Running Start started on 1/3/2024. We are asking all Running Start students to bring a printed copy of your Running Start Class Schedule to SHS. You can drop it off with Mrs. Carla at the Reception Desk.
Finals Week Schedule
January 22 - 26, 2024

Superintendent Weight's December Community Message
January is School Board Recognition Month and is a perfect time to recognize the value of our school board’s work with our district and community. SHSD’s School Board has a strong history of providing extraordinary service to help students reach their incredible potential.
Our school board directors volunteer hundreds of hours to assure our schools are providing the best education for every student. They are responsible for developing a vision that guides our school district for years to come. I feel very fortunate to work alongside our school board directors and appreciate their advocacy and dedication to public education and to our students.
Through a collaborative approach with school district staff, their governance and advocacy are building the future of education in Steilacoom Historical School District. At our December Board meeting, our school board directors voted on the governance goals for the year. Community outreach and a focus on professional development were two areas they chose to prioritize. We are grateful each of them has chosen to give selflessly of their time and energy to support our students’ success. You can learn more about each board member by visiting our website at https://www.steilacoom.k12.wa.us/who-we-are/school-board
We appreciate their dedication, their talents and their collective vision. Please join me in thanking the members of our school board for their service:
- Sam Scott (21st year)
- Jennifer McDonald (7th year)
- Loujanna Rohrer (5th year)
- Melanie Tinsley (3rd year)
- Patrick Lewis (1st year)
Stay Connected-Parent Square
Steilacoom Historical School District uses ParentSquare for school communication, primarily with email, text and app notifications. ParentSquare automatically generates an account for each parent, using their preferred email address and phone number. We encourage parents to access their accounts so they can download the mobile app and update their preferences on when and how they are notified.
